Celebrating Women's History Month
This month we celebrate Women’s History Month – a time to recognize and honor women both past and present for their contributions and accomplishments.
Women's History Month is itself an example of women coming together to support one another and advocate for themselves. It traces its roots back to a local Women’s History Week celebration that inspired a coalition of women’s rights groups to lobby for national recognition. Over time, it evolved into a month-long observance, officially recognized by the U.S. government in 1987 dedicated to…
Prepare to Vote On or Before March 5!
Tuesday March 5th, is the last day to vote in California’s 2024 Primary Election! If you are eligible, exercising your right to vote represents a fundamental practice of citizenship. Your choices will help determine the people who represent your voice in government and in some cases directly impact laws and how resources are allocated within our communities.
Just as transportation options are fundamental to accessing services and opportunities across Los Angeles, they are also essential in getting to the polls. All LADOT DASH services…
First CicLAvia of 2024 is this Sunday!
This Sunday marks the first CicLAvia of 2024, and we at LADOT are thrilled to kick off another year of open streets! Happy Lunar New Year, Los Angeles!
This week marks the vibrant celebration of the Lunar New Year, an event observed in cultures around the world. As one of the most diverse cities on Earth, Los Angeles embraces this significant event.
In the Chinese Zodiac, the coming year represents the Year of the Dragon and this Saturday, the 125th Golden Dragon Parade will march through the streets of L.A.’s Chinatown. Steeped in history, Chinatown has been and continues to be the cultural and economic hub of L.A.’s Chinese-American community. For generations it has welcomed visitors of…
Message from LADOT General Manager Laura Rubio-Cornejo:
February is Black History Month - a time to recognize, honor, and celebrate the historic and ongoing contributions the Black community makes to our City.
We kicked off the month celebrating Transit Equity Day on Sunday, February 4th. Set on the birthday of civil rights leader Rosa Parks, Transit Equity Day reminds us that transportation is about more than getting from point A to point B . Transportation is fundamentally about providing people with options, access, and opportunity, and it shapes the social fabric of our…
A significant storm event is anticipated to impact the Los Angeles region February 4 - 7. An evacuation order has been issued to residents along La Tuna Canyon Road, roughly within the area bounded by Horse Haven St. to the North, Martindale Ave. to the East, Penrose St. to the South and Ledge Ave. to the West. The City urges residents in this area to evacuate immediately. The area subject to the Order is at an increased risk of significant flooding, mudslides, and sediment flow because of the burn scars left by the Land Fire that occurred in 2022. The City is…

Every year, new state laws can change the rules of the road. Staying up to date on these changes can be tricky, but being aware of these changes is key to being safe while traveling and also avoiding a potential infraction. Here are a few relevant changes to state law that took effect this year.
A bill signed into law last year authorizes the cities of Los Angeles, San Jose, Oakland, Glendale, Long Beach, and San Francisco to implement five-year speed safety camera pilots at key locations like schools, locations with…
Message from LADOT General Manager Laura Rubio-Cornejo:
The resilience of our transportation system is defined by our ability to absorb major disruptions while continuing to connect Angelenos to their destinations whether it is to school, work, or play. As we saw last year following the temporary shutdown of the I-10 freeway due to the Alameda Fire, we were able to deploy resources, increase public transit services, and work with residents to adjust their travel behavior and keep Los Angeles moving.
This weekend, LADOT is mobilizing to support CalTrans' planned closure of the…
30 Years After the Northridge Earthquake
Today marks the 30th anniversary of the Northridge Earthquake. At 4:31 a.m., on January 17, 1994, a 6.7 magnitude earthquake struck the San Fernando Valley. Nearly 60 deaths were attributed to the devastating quake, with shaking felt as far away as Las Vegas. Many lost their homes and their businesses due to damage and transportation networks were damaged severely limiting access.
Thirty years later, it is important to remind ourselves that natural disasters can occur at any time. At LADOT, we consider our part in LA’s emergency…
Message from LADOT General Manager Laura Rubio-Cornejo:
Did you know that there are more than 7,500 miles of streets in the City of Los Angeles? That's enough roadway to stretch across the continental United States and back! For many years these streets, and streets across the country, were designed to carry large volumes of cars at high speeds, creating conditions that did not support and were often less safe for people riding transit, walking, or biking. At LADOT, much of our work today is focused on redesigning roads to improve safety for everybody, no matter how they choose to…
