FAQ

LADOT runs one of the most advanced signal systems in the Country. Dating back to the 1984 Olympics, LADOT staff invented technology to automatically adjust signal timing to more dynamically move traffic. The Advanced Transportation System and Coordination (ATSAC) Center uses real-time detector loops between and at intersections, and changes the signal timing as traffic conditions change. Engineers see graphical representations of traffic conditions, are automatically notified when traffic conditions are abnormal (which could be the result of a crash, police or fire emergency, etc.), and can visually observe conditions using cameras installed at major intersections. ATSAC also supports LA Metro to move its trains and buses faster.

LADOT continues to make advancements in ATSAC to keep traffic moving. Request a tour through our contact page.
