LA Express Park™ launched as a pilot program in Downtown in 2012, which expanded to Westwood Village in 2015, and the Hollywood Entertainment Core in 2018. As proven in Downtown and Westwood, less people circling the block looking for spaces means less traffic congestion, less fuel consumption, less hassle in finding parking, and a faster travel time to your destination.

To help manage the high demand of parking in Los Angeles, LADOT has a parking permits program that requires parking permits to park in certain parts of the city. There are three kinds of parking permits.
A Preferential Parking District (PPD) is an area that has posted regulations limiting parking by vehicles without permits in order to reduce the impact of non-resident parking. Residents of the area are allowed to purchase permits exempting their vehicles and those of their visitors from posted preferential parking restrictions.
An Overnight Parking District (OPD) is an area that has posted regulations limiting parking by vehicles without permits between 2:00 AM and 6:00 AM in order to reduce the impact of criminal and public nuisance activities associated with non-resident vehicles parked late at night. Residents of the area are allowed to purchase permits exempting their vehicles and those of their visitors from posted overnight parking restrictions
An Oversize Vehicle Restricted Area (OVRA) is an area that has posted regulations limiting parking by oversize vehicles (defined as a motor vehicle in excess of 22 feet in length or over 84 inches in height) without permits between 2:00 AM and 6:00 AM in order to reduce the impact of non-resident parking of oversize vehicles. Residents of the area are allowed to purchase permits exempting their oversize vehicles and those of their visitors from posted oversize vehicle parking restrictions.

Traffic officers are the lifeblood of LADOT. Traffic officers respond to about 6,000 events per year. From marathons to signal outages, our nearly 500 officers put themselves on the line to keep you safe and keep you moving.
These officers are deployed 24/7 to patrol parking spaces and make sure everyone has safe and fair access to parking. Traffic officers also address over 138,000 abandoned vehicle complaints and recover over 4,000 stolen vehicles annually. In addition to these activities, officers respond to service requests from residents and enforce laws that maintain public safety.
To keep people safe and make sure parking is available to all, the City of Los Angeles may tow or place a boot on your vehicle.
Your vehicle may have been towed or booted for the following reasons:
- You have five or more unpaid parking tickets
- Your vehicle was illegally parked
- Your vehicle registration may have expired
- Your vehicle may have no evidence of registration
