Building a Safer Pico Boulevard
Last weekend I joined community members at CicLAmini as we launched engagement for our Pico Boulevard Safety and Mobility Plan Project to make one of Los Angeles’ key corridors safer and more accessible for everyone. This project will focus on a 3.5 mile stretch of Pico Boulevard between Crenshaw Boulevard and Figueroa Street where 76 severe traffic collisions including 11 pedestrian fatalities occurred between 2014 and 2023.
LADOT began addressing safety on Pico Boulevard in 2019, implementing improvements like upgraded signals and high-…
Celebrating Bike Month
May is Bike Month, and there’s no better time to recognize how biking helps build a stronger, healthier, and more connected Los Angeles. Whether you're riding for fun, commuting to work, or simply exploring your neighborhood, every pedal stroke contributes to cleaner air, reduced traffic congestion, and healthier communities.
At LADOT, we’re proud of our work to deliver a more bike-friendly Los Angeles. Since last year’s bike month, we’ve celebrated the completion of multiple transformational bike projects including new bike lanes on Hollywood Boulevard…
LADOT is Proud to Honor AAPI Heritage Month
Each May, the City of Los Angeles is proud to recognize Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month. The contributions and history of AAPI communities and cultures are inseparable from the broader history of our City and LA’s AAPI neighborhoods–including Chinatown, Historic Filipinotown, Koreatown, and Little Tokyo–are some of our most popular and vibrant destinations for both locals and visitors.
At LADOT, we recognize this month is a time for celebration. However, it is also an opportunity to reflect on the challenges…
New DASH Service Launches in Pacoima this Weekend
I am thrilled to share that we are gearing up for the launch of DASH Pacoima! This new route is the result of over a year of collaboration and listening to the needs of our community. At LADOT, we believe that public transit should serve everyone, and the DASH Pacoima line is one more step toward making that vision a reality.
Launching a new DASH line is no small feat. It takes dedication and, most importantly, community involvement. Starting last year, LADOT outreach teams began holding design workshops to identify the…
Free CityRide Membership Drive in South LA
At LADOT, we’re always looking for new ways to connect Angelenos with the services they need to move around the city safely and affordably. That’s why I’m excited about a new initiative that offers qualified residents free membership to our CityRide program. Thanks to a grant from the State of California’s Sustainable Transportation Equity Program (STEP), we are able to provide 5000 memberships to residents who live within the pilot zone of our South LA Universal Basic Mobility program for the next year!
A CityRide membership…
Celebrating Earth Day 2025
As we approach Earth Day on April 22, I’m reminded of the power cities have to lead the way in protecting our planet. Here at LADOT, we’re proud to be part of that effort—reimagining how people move through Los Angeles in ways that are cleaner, greener, and more equitable.
LADOT Transit is the largest municipal system in LA County and we are committed to ensuring it serves both the people of Los Angeles and our City’s sustainability goals. To better serve LA residents, we are currently conducting a Comprehensize Operations Analysis to assess how to…
Recovery Efforts Three Months After LA Wildfires
This week, we marked three months since devastating wildfires raged across Los Angeles. I want to take this opportunity to highlight the actions our City partners have taken in coordination with county, state, and federal agencies to expedite relief and recovery efforts in the Pacific Palisades.
More than 260 properties have had debris completely cleared and received the final sign-off required for permits to be issued. The US Army Corps of Engineers has cleared nearly 1000 properties, including the three schools that were…
LADOT Honors Armenian Heritage Month
Every April, the City of Los Angeles celebrates Armenian Heritage Month, an opportunity to recognize the deep roots and enduring contributions of the Armenian community. Our City is home to the largest Armenian population outside of Armenia itself—a vibrant community that has shaped cultural, economic, and civic life for over a century.
Armenians began arriving in Los Angeles in significant numbers in the early 20th century, bringing with them a strong sense of family, faith, and resilience. Over the decades, neighborhoods like Little…
Peak Hour Lanes
Did you know that the City of Los Angeles first installed peak-hour lanes in the 1980s, in an effort to manage commuter traffic? Peak-hour lanes restrict curbside parking during the busiest hours of the morning and evenings to add an additional lane of travel for drivers in high-traffic corridors. However, traffic conditions and driver behavior often reduce or negate the expected capacity benefits, and can even have unintended negative impacts. That’s why our City Council recently asked LADOT to evaluate the City’s peak-hour lanes to figure out where they work, where…
What is a TOUCAN?
Angelenos have places to be and they get there by walking, riding the bus, biking, and driving. At LADOT, we are always thinking about how to design streets that allow all modes of travel to coexist safely while supporting the needs of people and communities. Intersections for example may seem like a simple meeting of two roads, but they come in all types of shapes, sizes, with various signs and signal types directing particular traffic patterns. One intersection signal design that you may have seen but not have known the name for is the TOUCAN.
TOUCAN stands…
