Happy Fourth of July from LADOT

As we celebrate the 4th of July this week– a day rooted in America’s promise of freedom– we are reminded of the foundations of that freedom, including our constitutional rights to due process and self-expression. This year, the very basis of that freedom is being challenged on our own city streets, reminding us that we can never take the promise of this country for granted.

Whether you choose to mark the day with fireworks, barbecues, or exercising your First Amendment rights, make safety a priority, and let LADOT help you get where you'…

Now Offering Zero-Emission Deliveries

Deliveries are a part of everyday life in Los Angeles—and now, we’re making them cleaner! Over the last few months, we’ve expanded our Zero Emission Delivery Zones pilot to 30 additional locations, creating designated curbside spots for electric vans, cargo bikes, and other zero-emission delivery vehicles. By incentivizing zero-emission trips, these zones help us build a cleaner, more efficient transportation system and meet our City’s sustainable infrastructure goals.

LADOT began this effort in 2021, installing five locations to…

LAnow Provides Free Rides in South LA

This week LADOT announced the expansion of the LAnow service to South LA! This microtransit pilot program offers flexible, affordable, on-demand transportation to residents, visitors, and anyone visiting the South LA community. The new service area covers and connects key destinations, services, and neighborhood amenities like LA Trade-Technical College, Exposition Park, BMO Stadium, USC, the South LA Wetlands, Metro’s A and E lines, and 5 neighborhood DASH service routes.

Powering this new zone are four all-electric transit vans…

First Amendment Rights

Los Angeles is a diverse city that recognizes and celebrates the contributions and perspectives of all its residents. At LADOT, we know that this diversity is our strength.

Last weekend, we saw crowds celebrating at the LA Pride Parade, at the same time as many Angelenos began voicing their dissent against Federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations within the City of Los Angeles, and surrounding areas. Our ability to express our views peaceably is not only core to this country, it is fundamental to the character and promise of our…

School's Out for Summer!

The end of the school year is always an exciting time. As students head into summer break, they can look forward to long days of summer adventures with friends. During this time, young children can be expected to be out enjoying warm weather, riding bikes as well as walking and taking transit. It is important that motorists remain vigilant for these younger users of the public right of way and drive with safety in mind.

Even as thoughts of the next school year are far from students’ minds, we at LADOT are already making plans for improving road…

As part of LADOT's efforts to develop and deliver school safety improvements, the department will be installing No Turn on Red restrictions at 20 locations in advance of the 25/26 academic year. Vehicles turning in intersections represent a disproportionate amount of fatal and severe injury collisions and are a particular threat to small children who are less visible to large vehicles. Following installation, LADOT will conduct a review of these locations to assess the impact of this safety treatment. See the slideshow below for more information about this program and the locations where…

PCH Reopens After Wildfire Closures

Thanks to the coordinated effort of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the California National Guard, the State Department of Transportation CalTrans, Los Angeles County, and City agencies like LADOT, the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) reopened just before the Memorial Day weekend!

While PCH has re-opened to the general public, speed limits in the impacted areas are reduced to 25 mph, and the Palisades neighborhood adjacent to PCH remains closed to non-residents and those without authorized access. See the article below for full details…

Building a Safer Pico Boulevard

Last weekend I joined community members at CicLAmini as we launched engagement for our Pico Boulevard Safety and Mobility Plan Project to make one of Los Angeles’ key corridors safer and more accessible for everyone. This project will focus on a 3.5 mile stretch of Pico Boulevard between Crenshaw Boulevard and Figueroa Street where 76 severe traffic collisions including 11 pedestrian fatalities occurred between 2014 and 2023.

LADOT began addressing safety on Pico Boulevard in 2019, implementing improvements like upgraded signals and high-…

Celebrating Bike Month

May is Bike Month, and there’s no better time to recognize how biking helps build a stronger, healthier, and more connected Los Angeles. Whether you're riding for fun, commuting to work, or simply exploring your neighborhood, every pedal stroke contributes to cleaner air, reduced traffic congestion, and healthier communities.

At LADOT, we’re proud of our work to deliver a more bike-friendly Los Angeles. Since last year’s bike month, we’ve celebrated the completion of multiple transformational bike projects including new bike lanes on Hollywood Boulevard…

LADOT is Proud to Honor AAPI Heritage Month

Each May, the City of Los Angeles is proud to recognize Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month. The contributions and history of AAPI communities and cultures are inseparable from the broader history of our City and LA’s AAPI neighborhoods–including Chinatown, Historic Filipinotown, Koreatown, and Little Tokyo–are some of our most popular and vibrant destinations for both locals and visitors.

At LADOT, we recognize this month is a time for celebration. However, it is also an opportunity to reflect on the challenges…
