LADOT Celebrates Women's History Month

March is Women’s History Month, and LADOT is excited to celebrate and honor women whose courage, determination, and hard work have made Los Angeles what it is today.

Beyond recognizing women’s contributions to date, Women’s History Month is also an opportunity to focus on our responsibility to build a transportation system that serves all Angelenos. Women often have unique transportation needs and barriers to accessing mobility options. According to Transportation for America, women are less likely than men to follow a typical 9-5…

Announcing LADOT's RIDER Study

Over the last few years we have seen a dramatic shift in how people move around our City. The increase in remote work following the COVID-19 pandemic and the rise in new travel modes mean our transit systems must adapt to changing travel patterns.

At LADOT, we’re committed to ensuring our transit system works for all riders. That’s why we recently launched the Real Input Driving Everyday Routes (RIDER) Study – to learn how you get around today. Our goal is to evaluate how well our current transit services–including DASH neighborhood buses…

Connecting With LA's Communities

LADOT is committed to ensuring residents, businesses, and other local stakeholders have the opportunity to make their voices heard on our planned projects. We firmly believe that Angelenos are the experts on the needs of their communities, and it is essential that the street and safety improvements we implement reflect those needs. LADOT engages with the community through a combination of methods:

Surveys: Filling out a survey on one of our projects is a quick (most are under five minutes!) and easy way to share your feedback. You can…

Reducing Speeding on LA's Streets

Speeding is one of the leading causes of serious injuries and deaths on our streets. In the City of Los Angeles, around one in five fatal crashes were directly attributed to speeding in 2024. LADOT’s Vision Zero Safety Study also found that unsafe speed was the primary collision factor in 40% of vehicle-only collisions that resulted in a fatality. Reducing speeding on our City streets makes our neighborhoods safer and more pleasant, encourages walking and biking, and–most importantly–saves lives.

LADOT continues to advance and install…

LADOT Celebrates Transit Equity Day

This week marks the start of African American Heritage Month, and today–February 4–transit agencies across the country mark Transit Equity Day, celebrated on the birthday of Rosa Parks. In 1955, Parks’s courageous refusal to give up her seat on a segregated bus led to the Montgomery bus boycott, which persisted for over a year until the U.S. Supreme Court ruled bus segregation unconstitutional.

Transit Equity Day highlights the critical role safe and dignified transit plays in daily life and access to opportunity. Despite the…

Help Shape the Future of the LA River

The Los Angeles River flows 51 miles across LA county, from Canoga Park all the way to Long Beach, connecting communities and providing a vital outdoor space for many Angelenos. LADOT and Metro are undertaking several projects to both expand the current bike route along the river and enhance connectivity to the existing path, providing more residents with a safe and separate place for both transportation and recreation.

Metro is working to close the 8-mile gap between the current paths in the Elysian Valley and the City of Vernon.…

LADOT's Annual Report is Here!

I’m proud to share the Fiscal Year 2024-2025 LADOT Annual Report. Over the previous year, the department has made significant progress in advancing its core mission to design, build, and operate a safe, resilient, and accessible transportation system. The last year saw the addition of new and expanded transit services, completion of major projects, and adoption of new technology to better manage streets and deliver services.

This year’s report is structured around five guiding principles that define our work and our progress:

Safety:…

Share Your Feedback with LADOT!

At LADOT, we’re committed to making our streets safer, more accessible, and more responsive to the people who use them every day. As we continue to develop safety and design improvements across Los Angeles, I want to personally encourage you to share your voice, because community input directly shapes how these projects take form.

Several important community surveys are now in their final days. Several of these projects reflect years of outreach and planning, and this is your opportunity to weigh in before designs are finalized:

Marking the One Year Anniversary of the Palisades and Eaton Fires

One year ago today, the air was thick with smoke as the Palisades and Eaton Fires spread rapidly, fueled by extreme wind speeds reaching up to 100 miles per hour. What began as a dangerous situation quickly became life-altering for many, forcing families to evacuate. Homes were lost, neighborhoods were forever changed, and while much progress has been made, some families are still displaced today.

Many LADOT staff were personally affected by both the fires and its aftermath. Some were themselves forced…
