Celebrating Juneteenth
Today, I would like to take a moment to reflect on the significance of Juneteenth in American history. The Juneteenth holiday marks the anniversary of the day in 1865 when enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, were finally informed of their freedom — more than two years after President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation. This day stands as a powerful reminder of the long and ongoing struggle for equality and justice in our country.
Juneteenth has grown from a regional observance to a nationwide celebration, and on June 17, 2021, it was…
School Is Out For Summer!
Congratulations to all the hard working students and teachers who are completing another school year!
At LADOT, we have also been hard at work implementing one of the largest school safety programs in our department’s history. Over the last year, LADOT implemented almost 1000 school safety treatments like lower speed limits, intersection tightening, and speed humps, benefitting hundreds of schools across our city. The article below includes more detail about how our team has been dedicated to creating a safer school environment for all.

Happy Pride Month!
Happy Pride Month! Each June, Pride Month recognizes the LGBTQIA+ community and individuals who have overcome legal and social discrimination to live and love authentically. At LADOT, we join in celebrating Pride Month as integral to the diversity and culture of acceptance and inclusion that enriches our city.
The first Pride month was celebrated in New York City in June of 1970 on the one year anniversary of the Riots at Stonewall Inn. Today, Pride is celebrated globally with one of the largest Pride celebrations in the world occurring here in Los…
Dear Community Member,
In August 2023, LADOT launched the Hollywood Safety and Mobility Project to reduce the high number of people being killed or severely injured in car crashes on Hollywood Blvd between Gower St and Lyman Pl.
We are pleased to share the final design for this project, which calls for converting a travel lane in each direction into a parking-protected bike lane between Lyman Pl and Van Ness Ave, and replacing on-street parking with a protected bike lane between Van Ness Ave and Gower St. This project will also…

Over the next four weeks, these recruits will undergo training that includes in-depth academic studies on parking violations and extensive…
EV Chargers and UBM
LADOT’s Universal Basic Mobility (UBM) program to expand transportation options and opportunities for Angelenos recently hit another major milestone with the installation of six solar-powered electric vehicle (EV) chargers at three Recreation and Parks facilities in South LA.
In addition to supporting EV-adoption, these chargers minimize their environmental impact by operating with solar panels and battery storage. What's more, they are available for anyone to use, completely free of charge! This accessibility underscores our dedication to making…

Honoring Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month
From the bustling streets of Chinatown and serene temples of Little Tokyo, to the towers of Koreatown and aromas of frying foods in Historic Filipinotown, Asian and Pacific Islander (AAPI) cultures are an indelible part of Los Angeles. That is why each May, the city recognizes AAPI Heritage Month.
At LADOT, our diverse workforce is a reflection of our city. We’ll celebrate this month by acknowledging staff members who are of Asian and Pacific Islander descent. Some are recent immigrants while others have families that…
