Happy Holidays from LADOT!
As the holidays approach, I want to take a moment to thank you for being part of what makes Los Angeles such a dynamic and inspiring city. This is the season to reflect on our shared accomplishments, connect with our communities, and look forward to a bright future together.
This season is also a time to embrace the joy of giving and looking out for one another. During the holidays, children are out of school, people are out shopping, attending parties, and visiting from out of town. This means streets might be more crowded than usual with people walking, biking, and driving. Let’s keep the holiday joyful by slowing down, staying attentive, and following traffic rules. I encourage everyone to consider using public transit as a safe, low-cost way to get to your destination. However, you celebrate, please do so responsibly.
As we enter 2025, I’m excited for what’s to come. From groundbreaking new projects to continued community engagement, LADOT remains dedicated to building a city that works for everyone. And as always, we welcome your ideas and feedback to help us achieve that goal.
On behalf of everyone at LADOT, I want to wish you and your families a Happy Holiday season and a wonderful New Year. May your days be filled with joy, laughter, and safe travels wherever you go!
Zicla Zipper Pilot Installed on Main Street Bike Lane
LADOT recently upgraded the Main Street bike lane in DTLA with the pilot installation of the Zicla Zipper, a post-consumer recycled rubber curb that provides additional protection for bicyclists riding in the two-way bike lane.
The Zicla Zipper can be installed quicker than permanent concrete, and can be easily removed and re-used when permanent concrete installation is available. In addition to extra protection, the Zipper provides additional visibility and reduced maintenance.
The goal of this pilot is to test the durability and visibility of the material and identify if it is appropriate for expansion to additional protected bike lanes citywide. More information about the product is available on Zicla’s website.

Temporary Safety Measures Now in Place on South Broadway
LADOT has begun implementing temporary safety improvements along South Broadway to reduce crashes and enhance safety in this high-injury corridor. As of Saturday, December 14th, the center median has been closed off at three key intersections—95th Street, 97th Street, and 103rd Street—restricting vehicles from crossing Broadway or making left turns from these side streets. These changes are part of ongoing efforts to improve traffic safety in the area.
These temporary measures are an interim treatment ahead of the Broadway Sur project, which is expected to begin construction in late 2025. When the project is fully implemented, the temporary closures will be replaced with permanent concrete installations. For now, LADOT anticipates that all locations will be completed by the end of the month.
Motorists and residents in the area are advised to stay informed about these changes and plan their routes accordingly. While the adjustments may cause some inconvenience, they are designed to improve safety along this critical stretch of road.
UBM E-Cargo Van Partnership Supports Food Distribution Efforts in South LA
The Los Angeles Cleantech Incubator (LACI), in partnership with LADOT, the California Air Resources Board (CARB), and Penske, is operating a zero-emission delivery pilot as part of the LADOT Universal Basic Mobility South LA Pilot Program. Through this initiative, local businesses and organizations serving the South LA community can rent electric Ford Transit Cargo Vans from Penske at no cost, enabling them to incorporate sustainable practices into their delivery operations.
Food Revolution LA, a food waste prevention program, is one organization taking advantage of the E-Cargo Van Partnership to provide food to South LA residents using sustainable, green transportation. Since joining the program this summer, Food Revolution LA has recovered 1,200 pounds of produce and food items weekly from grocery stores like Sprouts, Trader Joe’s, and Whole Foods. These goods are redistributed to food-insecure families in Leimert Park. Jordana, the leader of Food Revolution LA, has driven over 3,000 zero emission miles in the Penske E-Cargo Van.
The E-Cargo Van pilot is part of LADOT’s commitment to Universal Basic Mobility, which aims to expand sustainable transportation options in South LA. To learn more, visit our Universal Basic Mobility website.
LADOT Officers Bring Holiday Cheer to Pacoima Charter Elementary
LADOT officers from the Valley Parking Enforcement Office made their annual visit to Pacoima Charter Elementary School, spreading joy to 4- and 5-year-old students. The team brought toys and smiles, providing gifts for 130 children from six classes and turning an ordinary day into a special holiday celebration.
The event also featured a visit from Santa Claus and a fun storytime, making the day even more magical for the young students. This heartwarming tradition highlights the strong bond between LADOT and the community.
Nava Academy Students Complete UBM Youth Ambassador Program
Congrats to students from Nava College Preparatory Academy for completing LADOT's Universal Basic Mobility (UBM) Youth Ambassador program! This program provides high school students and recent graduates with hands-on training in electric vehicles, sustainable transportation, and community outreach. Over the course of 54 hours of instruction, students learned the impact zero-emission transportation has on the environment, the economy, and the community.
As Youth Ambassadors, these students are now prepared to talk about the benefits of sustainable transit with their friends, family, and community.
