I am looking forward to spending this Sunday celebrating the final CicLAvia event of 2023! CicLAvia has become an institution in our great city and I look forward to seeing Angelenos enjoy the open streets in SouthLA.
Sunday’s CicLAvia includes the vibrant Los Angeles communities of South Central, Vermont Square, and Leimert Park. I encourage everyone attending to take time to explore neighborhood landmarks like the beautiful Vision Theater and Exposition Park, and to use the opportunity to support local businesses or discover a new favorite restaurant.
CicLAvia has become the popular celebration it is because it gives us the opportunity to see neighborhoods in a new way. Cars get replaced with people from across the region as we are reminded that streets are intended for all of us to share. Ciclavia accomplishes this so well while celebrating LA’s diversity and creativity. There is truly nothing like it and it is all made possible by the incredible partnership of CicLAvia, Metro, and the City of Los Angeles. Don’t miss it!
New Traffic Signals Activated in Wilmington
This month, LADOT activated two new signals at the intersections of Anaheim & Marine and Anaheim & Bay View as part of the Anaheim Street Safety project. The Anaheim Street Safety project aims to improve traffic safety and connectivity for everyone who uses the street. The two new traffic signals will provide safer and more comfortable crossings for pedestrians, improving access to restaurants, shopping, and schools in the area.
New Crosswalk: Fries Avenue & G Street
LADOT recently joined with Councilmember Tim McOsker, Los Angeles Walks, and the Wilmington community to celebrate the newly-installed high-visibility crosswalks and four-way stop signs at the intersection of Fries Avenue and G Street.
In July, Wilmington resident Juan Jose Areyan was killed in a hit-and-run crash by a speeding driver at this intersection. After this tragedy, Areyan's family and the Wilmington community worked with LADOT to identify opportunities for new safety treatments on the street. The new crosswalks and stop signs will increase pedestrian visibility and slow drivers, helping prevent future crashes on the street.

Join the ride for a wheelie fun time! This Sunday, December 3rd, CicLAvia invites you to explore the streets connecting Leimert Park and Historic South Central. At this free event, you can embrace the route in any way that brings you joy: jogging, biking, skating, running, walking, skateboarding, or simply spectating. Now Hiring: Crossing Guards
LADOT is now accepting applications for new Crossing Guards. Crossing guards keep students safe traveling to and from school and help educate and instill safe, alert walking behaviors in young Angelenos. Our crossing guards are placed at schools throughout the city and help provide experience and judgment to help children navigate a school crossing, while also increasing the visibility of their presence to drivers.
