Breaking Ground on the Mid-City Greenway

Breaking Ground on the Mid-City Greenway

Yesterday, along with Council District 5 and our community partners, LADOT broke ground on the Mid-City Greenway! The Mid-City Neighborhood Greenways project will bring traffic calming measures and safety treatments to create a safe, shared space for pedestrians and cyclists.

The new treatments to be installed on the over four miles of project area on Rosewood Ave, Formose Ave, and Orange Dr include bike boxes, crossworks, and curb extensions and are designed to discourage cut-through commuter traffic on our residential streets. When drivers try to shortcut through neighborhoods on streets not designed to handle high speeds or traffic, it puts resident safety at risk. Treatments like traffic circles and TOUCAN signals help curb this behavior and keep residential streets safer for all!

The Mid-City Greenway will help residents and visitors of all ages and abilities to connect safely to schools, restaurants, shopping centers, transit stops, and more.

Mid City Greenway Breaks Ground on Safety Improvements

Mid-City Greenway Breaks Ground on Safety Improvements

Yesterday, July 15, LADOT, Council District 5, and community partners, gathered at Rosewood Elementary to break ground on the Mid-City Greenway. This project will bring bicycle and pedestrian safety enhancements to 4.43 miles of Rosewood Ave, Formosa Ave, and Orange Dr. The new safety treatments include:

  • 14 bike boxes at 7 intersections
  • 30 crosswalks at 9 intersections
  • 3 curb extensions
  • 1 diverter
  • 3 bike-friendly TOUCAN signals
  • 2 neighborhood traffic circles
  • 1 bike signal
  • 1 block one-way conversion and contra flow protected bike lane

These traffic safety improvements will slow vehicle traffic, provide better visibility for pedestrians, and help ensure better protection for bicyclists.

The first element of this project to be implemented was a new traffic signal at Rosewood Ave and La Brea Ave, installed in May 2019. This new signal includes turn restrictions for vehicles, discouraging cut-through traffic on Rosewood Ave while facilitating pedestrian and bicycle crossings.

Take the Pico Boulevard Safety and Mobility Project Survey

Take the Pico Boulevard Safety and Mobility Project Survey

LADOT wants to hear your thoughts on improving transportation safety along Pico Boulevard, especially for those who walk, bike, and take transit. Pico is a major street used to access jobs, destinations, and community institutions. LADOT is prioritizing safety and accessibility improvements on Pico Boulevard that include: reducing the number of travel lanes to improve driving behavior; adding a new bicycle facility to expand mobility options and improve safety for bicyclists; adding new crossings to improve pedestrian safety and access; and other street safety features.

Take the Pico Boulevard Safety and Mobility Project Survey before September 8, 2025 and let us know how you travel along Pico Boulevard and what safety improvements you’d like to see prioritized along the corridor. Participants will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win one of two $50 gift cards.

Feedback on the Spring St Mobility Project

Share Your Feedback on the Spring St and Alameda St Safety and Mobility Project

LADOT is kicking off a new planning effort to improve safety and mobility along Spring St and Alameda St. These corridors connect neighborhoods to key destinations such as LA State Historic Park, Chinatown, Olvera Street, Union Station, Downtown LA, and the LA River Bike Path – but today, there are critical gaps in the transportation network and ongoing safety concerns for people walking, biking, and taking public transit.

If you live, work, or spend time in the project area, we want to hear from you! Your feedback will guide the types of improvements we consider and help us to better understand how the street can serve the needs of everyone.

Take the Spring St. and Alameda St. survey before September 8, 2025. Participants will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win one of two $50 gift cards.
