This week marks the start of African American Heritage Month, and today–February 4–transit agencies across the country mark Transit Equity Day, celebrated on the birthday of Rosa Parks. The Los Angeles River flows 51 miles across LA county, from Canoga Park all the way to Long Beach, connecting communities and providing a vital outdoor space for many Angelenos. LADOT and Metro are undertaking several projects to both expand the current bike route along the river and enhance connectivity to the existing path, providing more residents with a safe and separate place for both transportation and recreation.

I’m proud to share the Fiscal Year 2024-2025 LADOT Annual Report. Over the previous year, the department has made significant progress in advancing its core mission to design, build, and operate a safe, resilient, and accessible transportation system. The last year saw the addition of new and expanded transit services, completion of major projects, and adoption of new technology to better manage streets and deliver services.

This year’s report is structured around five guiding principles that define our work and our progress:

As we continue to develop safety and design improvements across Los Angeles, I want to personally encourage you to share your voice, because community input directly shapes how these projects take form.

One year ago today, the air was thick with smoke as the Palisades and Eaton Fires spread rapidly, fueled by extreme wind speeds reaching up to 100 miles per hour. What began as a dangerous situation quickly became life-altering for many, forcing families to evacuate. Yesterday, LADOT joined with Council District 1 and our City partners to celebrate the groundbreaking on the Elden Elms Sustainable Transportation Infrastructure project! I’m excited to share an important milestone for the Watts community and for Los Angeles as a whole. Starting this week, LADOT launched the first of ten electric DASH buses that will serve the Watts community. I’m excited to share that LADOT recently completed safety assessments in five neighborhoods prioritized for our Safe Routes for Seniors pilot program, an initiative created to better understand and support how older Angelenos travel. The department has developed plans and installed initial improvements across these five areas, identified as having a higher proportion of elderly residents: Chinatown, Rancho Park, South LA, Exposition/Crenshaw, and Downtown LA.
