LADOT Celebrates Clean Air Day

Happy Clean Air Day, Los Angeles! Clean Air Day is a reminder of the role we all play in improving the quality of the air we breathe. In Los Angeles, transportation remains a leading contributor to air pollution, with vehicle emissions accounting for nearly 40% of the City's greenhouse gasses. Poor air quality impacts the health of our communities, especially our most vulnerable residents, making it crucial that we continue working toward a cleaner, healthier future.

At LADOT, we're also taking bold steps to offer cleaner, greener transportation...

Celebrating Phase 3 of the San Fernando Bike Path

Last week, we celebrated the completion of Phase 3 of the San Fernando Bike Path, a project that underscores our commitment to creating a more connected, sustainable, and cyclist-friendly Los Angeles. This latest phase adds 4.75 miles of a separated bike path, stretching from Branford Street to Cohasset Street, and completes a continuous 9.8-mile stretch of bicycle facilities that now link Sylmar to Burbank.

This bike path is a vital transportation link that connects people traveling by bike to job centers, residential...

Honoring the Hispanic Community this Latino Heritage Month

This week marked the beginning of Latino Heritage Month! The history and diversity of Latino heritage are intrinsic to the City of Los Angeles, and the leadership, service, sacrifices, and vision of our Latino communities have helped shape values across the region and also right here at LADOT.

The strength of our department and our City lies in our diversity. Latino families – some who recently settled and others who have called Los Angeles home for generations – represent that diversity and strength. At LADOT, our...

Join LADOT at CicLAmini: Lincoln Heights!

I’m excited to share that on Sunday, September 15th, we’re bringing CicLAmini to Lincoln Heights! If you’ve never experienced a CicLAmini event, think of it as a scaled-down version of CicLAvia—all the fun packed into a smaller area with a more pedestrian focus. By transforming our neighborhoods into car-free zones, we allow families, friends, and neighbors to experience neighborhoods safely without the sound, stress, and pollution of vehicles.

Lincoln Heights, one of Los Angeles’ oldest neighborhoods, is rich in history and...

September is National Preparedness Month!

September is National Preparedness Month. Our commitment to keeping Los Angeles moving goes hand-in-hand with ensuring that we’re ready to respond swiftly and effectively in the face of an emergency.

LADOT’s own emergency readiness is a team effort. Our Transit division is ready to provide transportation under all types of conditions including mobilization to support evacuations. Traffic officers are trained in emergency response and help to keep critical routes open. LADOT Special Traffic Operations plans potential detour and...

Saluting Our LADOT Crossing Guards as Students Return to School

When students returned to school this month, LADOT crossing guards were among the familiar faces of teachers and friends welcoming them back from summer vacation. Over the last year, we’ve added more than 150 new crossing guards to our ranks of more than 500 women and men who assist young students at key intersections across the city. LADOT recently implemented numerous safety measures and improvements such as speed humps, crosswalk upgrades, and reduced speed limits, to get children to their classrooms safely....

Celebrating the Completion of Phase I of the Hollywood Safety and Mobility Project

Last week, I joined Councilmembers Hugo Soto Martinez and Nithya Raman to celebrate the completion of Phase I of the Hollywood Blvd Safety and Mobility Project! All of us at LADOT are extremely proud to deliver a project that reflects the input of thousands of community members who live, travel, and work along this corridor, who participated in surveys, town halls, and pop-up engagement events.

The first phase of this project redesigns over two miles of one of our city’s most famous...

Join LADOT at CicLAvia: Meet the Hollywoods!

I’m excited to share that this Sunday, August 18th, CicLAvia will return to Hollywood! Taking place along 6.6 miles of Santa Monica Boulevard, Highland Avenue, and Hollywood Boulevard, CicLAvia “Meet the Hollywoods” will bring people and joy to the streets by creating a car-free space where you can walk, bike, or skate to explore some of LA’s most iconic neighborhoods.

This CicLAvia will also feature the recently completed Hollywood Boulevard Safety and Mobility Project, designed to reduce speeding, provide safer pedestrian...

LADOT Welcomes Students Back to School

It’s back to school season, and LADOT has been hard at work to get our streets ready for returning students! Over the past year, LADOT worked with Mayor Bass and LAUSD to implement the most significant expansion of school safety investments in our city’s history. We lowered school zone speed limits to 15 mph near 200 schools, constructed 200 new speed humps at 56 schools, and installed improvements at 182 intersections -- all to make it safer for students to get to school.

In addition to the planners, engineers, and crews who...

The Best Time to Prepare for an Emergency is Now

Here in Los Angeles we are fortunate to have year-round sunshine and access to mountains, beaches, and deserts right at our doorstep. Sometimes these same assets can cause the unexpected, demonstrated by the earthquakes and wildfires we experienced in just the last week.

In addition to the transportation planning, street design, and transit service we offer to get Angelenos where they need to go everyday, LADOT also serves a critical emergency response and public safety role. From identifying evacuation routes, deploying...
