Electric DASH Buses Arrive in Watts

Pedestrian Safety Improvements Coming to Pico Union

Yesterday, LADOT joined with Council District 1 and our City partners to celebrate the groundbreaking on the Elden Elms Sustainable Transportation Infrastructure project! Since opening its doors in 2021, Elden Elms has provided much needed affordable housing to the Pico-Union neighborhood. But housing alone is not enough to make a community complete. The surrounding streets must also support access and mobility.

The Elden Elms Sustainable Transportation Infrastructure project combines housing and mobility improvements to ensure that streets are safe, accessible, and supportive of people’s needs. LADOT has already upgraded 17 crosswalks within the project area, with more to come. New curb extensions around Berendo Middle School will reduce the distance children have to cross the street, making the journey to and from school safer and more pleasant for all.

This work, combined with sidewalk reconstruction, access ramps, new street trees, and new street light poles, will significantly improve the experience of walking in this neighborhood. At LADOT, we believe that all Angelenos, no matter how they choose to travel, should have a safe and dignified experience. For the residents of Elden Elms and the surrounding neighborhood, this groundbreaking marks a significant step toward achieving that goal.

Tree Planting and EV Charger Event at Harvard Park

South LA Eco-Lab Hosts Tree Planting and EV Charger Event at Harvard Park

Last week, LADOT gathered with our South LA Eco-Lab community partners in Harvard Park for a tree planting event highlighting the Eco Lab’s work toward a more sustainable South LA.

For decades, South LA communities have experienced higher levels of traffic congestion and associated negative health impacts. The South LA Eco-Lab, made possible with a $35 million state grant, aims to end these disparities by investing in sustainable, green community projects in the heart of South LA.

LADOT has been proud to provide leadership on several components of the South LA Eco-Lab. As part of the Universal Basic Mobility (UBM) pilot program, LADOT installed 100 chargers on streetlights, at libraries, and at parks in South LA. Thanks to an additional grant, LADOT was able to expand that number by 16 more chargers, including four at Harvard Park–of which three have already been installed. Last week’s event gave the community and media the chance to see the new chargers in action, learn about the benefits of electric vehicles, and hear about other improvements coming to South LA.

Providing EV chargers near community amenities like Harvard Park makes it easy for families to charge their vehicles while using the playground, pool, or tennis courts. By encouraging the switch to zero emission vehicles, we reduce congestion for the whole community for a greener and safer South LA.

Share Your Feedback on the City of LA Charter

Share Your Feedback on the City of LA Charter

The City of Los Angeles is considering updates to its City Charter, the local “constitution” that sets the rules for how the City’s government works. These updates may touch on topics such as ethics (fairness and honesty), development decisions (housing and building approvals), budgeting (how money is planned and spent), and representation (how City Council districts are drawn).

Your feedback will help inform how leaders approach these potential reforms. There are two ways to participate:

Closure of Section of PicoBoulevard Through March 2028

City Announces Closure of Section of Pico Boulevard Through March 2028

The City of Los Angeles announced last week that as part of the $2.6 billion LA Convention Center Expansion and Modernization Project, Pico Boulevard will be closed between LA Live Way and Figueroa Street beginning Thursday, December 4, 2025. The closure will be in place until March 31, 2028.

The closure will be 24 hours, 7 days a week to allow for the construction of the LACC expansion structure over Pico Boulevard, which will connect the existing South and West Exhibit Halls.

Eastbound vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians will be detoured north onto LA Live Way, east on Olympic Blvd, and south on Figueroa St to continue on to Pico Blvd. Traveling westbound, vehicles, cyclists, and pedestrians will be detoured south on Figueroa St, west on Venice Blvd, and north on Union Ave.

Metro Line 30 serving Pico Blvd will be detoured between Union Ave and Figueroa St. During the closure, buses will detour north and southbound on Union Ave, west and eastbound on Olympic Blvd, and north and southbound on Figueroa St. Visit Metro’s website for details of stops along the detour.

Please allow extra time if you plan to travel through the area and obey all Traffic Officer instructions.
