Help Shape the Future of the LA River
The Los Angeles River flows 51 miles across LA county, from Canoga Park all the way to Long Beach, connecting communities and providing a vital outdoor space for many Angelenos. LADOT and Metro are undertaking several projects to both expand the current bike route along the river and enhance connectivity to the existing path, providing more residents with a safe and separate place for both transportation and recreation.
Metro is working to close the 8-mile gap between the current paths in the Elysian Valley and the City of Vernon. Currently, this gap forces bike riders to ride on busy streets to reconnect to the path–undoubtedly leading many to choose alternative modes of transportation. Metro has prepared a draft Environmental Impact Report to evaluate this project, and is hosting a series of public hearings for Angelenos to share their comments. Learn more on Metro’s website.
LADOT held public meetings on our LA Riverway Phase IV expansion last year, a necessary step before construction moves forward. We are also participating in a grant application with the Bureau of Engineering to build an extension of the path in the East San Fernando Valley. As part of this grant application, we want to hear from you! Take the LA Riverway survey and let us know which of three proposed on-street connections to the path you prefer.
Expanding the LA River bike path is an important step in encouraging active transportation in Los Angeles. Thank you for sharing your feedback!

Food Revolution LA Uses EV Van to Redistribute Food Across LA
Over the past 2 years, local organization Food Revolution LA has driven over 7,000 zero emission miles to collect food and produce from Sprouts, Trader Joe’s, and Whole Foods across LA and redistribute it to food-insecure families in Leimert Park.
Through funding from the California Air Resources Board (CARB) STEP grant, LADOT's Universal Basic Mobility program purchased the electric cargo van for Food Revolution LA. This electric vehicle enables Food Revolution LA to commute across the City–rescuing food that would otherwise go to waste and giving to those in need–without producing pollution. Food Revolution LA has recovered about 1,200 pounds of food every week since joining the program in June 2024.
Food Revolution LA's mission is to fight for food justice by creating access to healthy food for everyone in the Los Angeles area. They provide hands-on education about nutrition for youth and work to build sustainable communities and make sure no one goes to bed hungry. Through education, advocacy and direct action, Food Revolution LA strives to create long-term change and support those facing food insecurity.

New Left Turn Phasing on Century and Main
Last week, LADOT activated new left turn phasing for the traffic signal at the intersection of Century Boulevard and Main Street in Broadway-Manchester. In addition to making it easier for cars to turn left at this intersection, the new left turn phasing will reduce conflicts between pedestrians and drivers. Pedestrians will have easier access to stores, restaurants, and transit stops in the area, encouraging active transportation and helping to make our City safe for all.

In honor of Transit Equity Day, next Wednesday, February 4, all LADOT Transit services–including DASH, Commuter Express, Cityride, and LAnow–will be free for all users.
