Construction is Underway on Spring/Alameda
Last week, I joined Mayor Bass and Councilmembers Eunisses Hernandez and Ysabel Jurado, alongside partner agencies from the City and region, to celebrate construction on the Spring/Alameda Safety and Mobility Project! Spring Street and Alameda Street are vital corridors connecting Angelenos to jobs, shops, and cultural destinations like the LA River, LA State Historic Park, Chinatown, Union Station, and Olvera Street. This project is an effort to fill crucial mobility gaps on the corridors and make travel easier and safer for pedestrians, cyclists, and other road users.
Through community engagement, LADOT heard consistent feedback from people who live, work, and visit the neighborhood that these streets needed protected bikeways and safer crossings. Our redesigned street includes Class IV protected bicycle lanes, new signalized pedestrian crossings at Spring Street/Ann Street and Spring Street/Mesnager Street, ADA compliant curb ramps, high visibility crosswalks, and more.
Crews have been underway installing the new curb ramps and making repairs to the sidewalk. A new bus boarding island has gone in on Alameda Street at the Metro A Line Chinatown station. Construction is expected to last through 2027. For project updates, visit the Spring/Alameda project.
Los Ángeles Azules Square Dedicated in Panorama City
On Monday, LADOT gathered with Council District 6 and the community to celebrate the dedication of Los Ángeles Azules Square in the San Fernando Valley. The intersection of Van Nuys Boulevard and Chase Street now serves to recognize the multi-generational musical career of the Los Ángeles Azules, a globally acclaimed cumbia group originally from Iztapalapa, Mexico City.
The dedication ceremony, which kicked off the City’s Latino Heritage Month celebrations, featured music, dancing, and community. Los Ángeles Azules Square gives the Panorama City community a place to gather, celebrate, and create memories. LADOT congratulates the Los Ángeles Azules on this honor.

LADOT Teams Support 78th Primetime Emmys
On Monday, September 14th, LADOT Special Traffic Operations (STO) team supported the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards in Downtown LA. In addition to planning road closures and detours, the STO team worked closely with Signal Timing to improve and facilitate traffic in the area, minimizing the disruption to commuters and residents. This year, LA28 planners were on hand to observe LADOT’s work as part of traffic management preparation for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Share Your Input on Accessibility in Los Angeles
The City of Los Angeles is updating its Citywide Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Self-Evaluation and Transition Plan and is seeking input from the community.
Share what is working well, where you have experienced accessibility barriers, and what the City should improve by completing the ADA Public Input Survey by October 15 or participating in the Commission on Disability Public Hearing on September 17 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Resources For Residents Affected by Lineage Warehouse Fire
As the City of Los Angeles and Council District 14 continue recovery efforts following the June 17 Lineage Warehouse Fire in Boyle Heights, LADOT wishes to make residents aware of the following resources available to affected Angelenos:
Business Recovery: Low-interest federal Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL) are now available to small businesses and nonprofits impacted by the warehouse fire in Boyle Heights. Customer service representatives will be on hand at Business Recovery Centers in the LA area to assist with applications. Explore Boyle Heights Business Recovery Resources.
Community Resource Center: A new location for the Community Resource Center at Boyle Heights City Hall, 2130 E. 1st Street. Learn about the Community Resource Center.
Free Buses: LADOT is making temporary service adjustments to serve Boyle Heights residents, offering additional free buses in the area. Two additional buses have been added to the Boyle Heights DASH route, operating daily with free service every 10-15 minutes until further notice.
LADOT has also temporarily waived fares for Cityride Dial-a-Ride service for seniors and people with disabilities. A Cityride van is stationed at LAC+USC Medical Center to provide emergency transportation. Service runs daily from 6:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Community Notifications: The Mayor’s Office has created a dedicated WhatsApp channel for Boyle Heights residents to receive regular updates on the recovery process. Download WhatsApp Messenger for free from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.

Sunset Safety and Mobility Project
The City of Los Angeles is planning improvements along Sunset Boulevard and Cesar Chavez Avenue between Douglas Street and Alameda Street.
