Be Safe This Halloween!
Happy Halloween! Every year spooky season is filled with fun activities, from trick-or-treating to haunted houses to costume contests. But as sunset creeps up earlier, and ghouls and goblins sneak from door to door, it is even more important for Angelenos to stay alert, drive with caution, and work together to keep our communities safe.
If you are driving on Halloween, slow down–whether or not you see trick-or-treaters. Remember that children may run into the street. Always yield to pedestrians, and make sure your headlights are on. Be aware of your vehicle’s blind spots, especially if you drive a large truck or SUV. These vehicles in particular can have large forward blind zones, making it difficult to see children who may be directly in front of you. And remember above all else not to drink and drive. Use transit or rideshare to get home easily and safely whenever possible, and especially if you plan on drinking.
If you’re trick-or-treating, make sure you and your family can see and be seen! Wear light or reflective clothing and carry a flashlight. Make sure children’s masks don’t interfere with their vision, and talk about crossing the street safely before you head out.
I hope everyone has a safe and fun Halloween!

View Speed Safety Systems Online
On October 26, 2026, LADOT launched the City’s Speed Safety Systems Program pilot to help save lives and create safer streets for all Angelenos. LADOT anticipates that all systems will be activated by the end of 2026.
A 60 day warning period applies at the start of enforcement, both when the program first launches and whenever new speed safety systems are activated on additional streets. At launch, the system will issue warning notifications to those speeding at least 11mph over the posted speed limit. After the 60 day period, citations will be issued to speeding vehicles starting at $50. Revenue from the program will be used to complement the city’s ongoing investments in safe street infrastructure.
Camera locations and the status of each camera are now live on LADOT’s Speed Safety Systems website.

LADOT Transit Announces Changes to Real Time Information Text Service
LADOT Transit recently announced a change to one of the options for reaching its real time information service. Effective immediately, the text option to receive bus arrival times is 213-785-3858. Text a specific stop number to 213-785-3858 to receive the arrival times for the next three LADOT Transit buses serving that stop. The Transit app makes it easy to plan trips, track real time vehicle locations, and combine bus, walking, biking, and other transportation options. Learn more about the Transit app.

Chief of Transit Brian Lee Featured on Future of Transit Panel
Last week, LADOT’s Chief of Transit Brian Lee was a panelist at AECOM’s Strategy in Transit: The Future of Transit Facilities event. The panel discussed how Southern California transit agencies like LADOT, Metro, and Long Beach Transit are modernizing their transit infrastructure and reimagining their facilities. The conversation explored adapting existing facilities for new fleet technologies, navigating power and infrastructure constraints, and preparing for future operational demands.
Brian spoke about LADOT's bus yard electrification efforts, including the newly purchased land in Harbor City where the Department will be building a brand new, state of the art bus facility. This facility could potentially feature exciting new technologies like self driving buses within the yard and automatic electric charging.
