Ribbon Cutting for New Signals Along Ventura Blvd
We recently joined Councilmember Paul Krekorian and StreetsLA to celebrate new ADA access to the Chandler Bike Path at Satsuma Ave and Cartwright Ave. In addition to the safe ADA access to the path for pedestrians and cyclists, the revamped design features new public art, recreation equipment, lighting, benches, and more.
The event also celebrated the securing of funds to bring similar recreation improvements to the Chandler Bike Path at Cahuenga Blvd. These amenities will give residents of the Valley more opportunities to enjoy the outdoors and connect with their community.
LADOT is working to close the three mile gap between the Chandler Bike Path and the Orange Line Bike Path with the Chandler Bicycle Connection. This project will add three miles of separated, bollard-protected bike lanes from Leghorn Ave to Vineland Ave in each direction, for a total of six new lane miles. Once complete, cyclists will be able to travel from Chatsworth to Burbank on continuous safe, comfortable, and protected lanes.
Additional features of the Chandler Bicycle Connection project will include:
- 25 bike boxes for safe left and right turns
- 25 bike crossings
- 15 intersections with bike signals
- High-visibility crosswalks at all intersections
- Dedicated blue curb/ADA parking spots
- Bus boarding islands at high-volume stops in NoHo
Celebrating Latino Heritage Month: The Importance of Language in Transportation Planning
This Latino Heritage Month, we’re highlighting the significance of language in transportation planning. Effective communication in Spanish is a fundamental step toward inclusivity, equity, and empowerment in the field of transportation.
That's why we collaborated with LA Walks, community members, transportation and planning practitioners, advocates and others to develop LADOT’s first Bilingual Glossary of Transportation Terms. This Bilingual glossary has over 100 transportation planning and community engagement terms to enhance communication and empower Spanish-speaking communities to advocate for more livable and sustainable neighborhoods.
We invite our partners, colleagues, and all community members to use our Bilingual glossary to continue our work to improve street safety. We hope that you find it useful. Should you have any feedback, please share it with us here.
LA to Welcome the Endeavour Rocket Motors at the California Science Center
On Wednesday, October 11, the California Science Center will welcome the two rocket motors that powered space shuttles on their missions. The public will be able to watch the rocket motors as they complete the final leg of their journey from the Mojave Air and Space Port to their new home in Exposition Park, where they will be mated with Endeavour for its "ready-to-launch" vertical exhibit in the future Samuel Oschin Air and Space Center currently under construction.
Please be advised that there will be rolling road closures the area south of Exposition Park along Figueroa Ave to Gage Ave on 10/11. While vehicles will be prohibited along the route during the transport, spectators are encouraged to witness the movement of the rocket boosters along Figueroa.
The arrival of the rocket motors in Los Angeles promises to be a momentous occasion, celebrating the legacy of human space exploration.
