LADOT Brings ABLE Program to DASH Buses

LADOT Brings ABLE Program to DASH Buses

LADOT is committed to providing Angelenos with fast and reliable transit service. Keeping bus lanes and bus stops clear is critical to ensuring an efficient and equitable transportation system. When drivers stop or park in bus lanes or at bus stops, it slows transit vehicles, makes it difficult for riders with accessibility needs to board and disembark buses, and discourages users from taking the bus.

Last year, in partnership with Metro, LADOT launched the Automated Bus Lane and Bus Stop Enforcement (ABLE) program on key Metro routes. Metro buses travelling on certain routes now operate with a dual-camera system that can detect vehicles illegally occupying bus-only lanes. Traffic officers manually review each violation before issuing a citation.

Starting this week, LADOT is expanding this program to its own DASH buses! As of November 2, registered owners of vehicles illegally stopped or parked in bus lanes will receive warning notices. After a 60-day warning period, beginning on January 2, 2027, citations will be issued for all violations. The program has launched on buses in downtown Los Angeles and will expand to other routes next year.

Consistent enforcement is the best way to ensure transit priority lanes work as intended and riders get the reliable service they deserve. Learn more about the DASH ABLE program.

LADOT to Host Chandler Bicycle Connection Community Open House

LADOT to Host Chandler Bicycle Connection Community Open House Nov. 17

Recently, LADOT began installation of an approximately 3 mile new protected bikeway on Chandler Boulevard between Leghorn Avenue and Vineland Avenue. This is the initial construction phase of a multi-year project that will result in protected bike lanes on Chandler Boulevard, connecting the G Line and Chandler bike paths.

During the initial construction, LADOT heard community concerns about the lack of space for walking along portions of Chandler Boulevard where sidewalks are missing. In response, LADOT has met with community leaders and elected offices and incorporated the feedback we’ve received into a plan to make additional changes to the street.

Join LADOT for a community meeting on November 17th at Chabad of North Hollywood (13079 Chandler Blvd, Sherman Oaks, CA 91401)  from 5:30 pm- 7:30 pm. Participants will learn about the proposed project changes and have the opportunity to ask questions.

RSVP for the meeting here.

City Planning Tours Connect Del Rey Project

City Planning Tours Connect Del Rey Project

Last week, LADOT participated in Planning Day, an annual training event where City Planning Department staff connect with on the ground projects and communities. LADOT’s Nathaniel Singer led the bicycle team on a tour of Playa Del Rey and discussed the Connect Del Rey active transportation project. The tour discussed the project, its status, and the ways the design changed based on existing street conditions, as well as the status of other DOT projects across the City. Thanks to Nathaniel for leading the tour and to the City Planning staff who came out to learn about the project.

CicLAvia Rolls Through Pasadena On November 15

Join CicLAvia and the City of Pasadena at the next open streets event, CicLAvia: Pasadena on Sunday, November 15, from 9am to 3pm. This free, family friendly event will transform city streets into a car-free and carefree celebration of community. 2.7 miles of Colorado Boulevard and Raymond Avenue will be closed to cars and open for bikes, pedestrians, skateboards, roller bladers, runners, and more.

To provide further connections to the CicLAvia route, the City of Pasadena is temporarily setting up dedicated pop-up bike lanes with traffic cones and signage to separate bikes and wheeled devices from normal operating street traffic. A 1 mile western Slow Streets segment will run along Walnut Avenue between Raymond Avenue and Orange Grove Boulevard and then continue to Rosemont Avenue a few blocks from the Rose Bowl. Additionally, a 1 mile segment along Colorado Boulevard from Allen Avenue to San Gabriel Boulevard will connect East Colorado Boulevard to the Lamanda Park neighborhood.

More details–including route maps, street closure information, and community activities–can be found on the CicLAvia website. See you there!
