Celebrating Bike Month
May is National Bike Month! Riding a bike has many benefits, like increasing fitness, reducing emissions, and saving money on gas and parking. But perhaps most importantly, riding a bike is fun! At LADOT, we are committed to making our streets safer so that more people can take part in the joy of bicycling. Our goal is to build bicycle infrastructure that ensures everyone–from ages 8 to 80–feels safe and comfortable to ride.
LADOT has several projects in the works to make our City safer for cyclists. Construction is currently underway on the Mid-City Neighborhood Greenways, a network of neighborhood streets featuring traffic calming features and wayfinding signage designed to create more comfortable streets for all. We’re in the engagement phase for a similar project connecting Koreatown and Pico-Union. And projects like the Pico Boulevard Safety and Mobility Project will bring protected bike lanes to some of LA’s most important corridors, making it easier to access jobs, transit stops, and errands by bicycle. Feedback from cyclists like you is essential to our process! Make sure to check out our Marmion Way and Pico Boulevard project surveys to share what kind of safety improvements matter most to you.
This Bike Month, I hope you will join us in celebrating the joy of riding a bike! With your engagement on projects, LADOT will continue to expand our bike network, improve our infrastructure, and build a safer transportation system for all.
