Mid City Greenways Project Update
LADOT broke ground on the Mid-City Neighborhood Greenway one year ago, and if you’ve been walking or biking along Rosewood Avenue, Formosa Avenue, or Orange Drive recently, you may have noticed some improvements designed to calm traffic and make these neighborhood streets safer for all.
In collaboration with project partners at the Bureau of Engineering, we have completed new curb extensions, a traffic circle, and a diverter–all three of which encourage slow and safe vehicle movement. Soon, crews will be installing a TOUCAN signal, a unique traffic signal that provides signal protection for pedestrians and bikes to cross high traffic volume streets while requiring vehicles to turn away from residential streets.
This project is the result of a collaborative effort with local stakeholders to improve walking and biking conditions in the neighborhoods of Beverly Grove, Fairfax, and Hollywood. By introducing safety features and wayfinding signage, the project will create more comfortable streets, improve connections to local destinations and transit, and discourage cut-through traffic on neighborhood streets. LADOT Establishes Preferential Parking District in Chavez Ravine
This week, LADOT joined with Council District 1 to establish a new Preferential Parking District in the Chavez Ravine community. Due to the neighborhood’s proximity to Dodger Stadium, visitors would frequently park their vehicles on residential streets, causing stress, wasted time, and unnecessary emissions as residents were forced to circle for parking near their homes. This PPD will make parking smoother and easier for Chavez Ravine residents.
Residents of an area designated as a PPD may purchase special parking permits enabling them to park in that area. The exemption only applies to the preferential parking regulations, not to street sweeping or other regulations. Vehicles parked in a PPD without displaying a parking permit will be cited in the amount of $68 for a first violation.
If you’re attending events at Dodger Stadium, leave the stress of parking behind and take Metro’s free Dodger Stadium Express from Union Station or South Bay.
Crossing Guards Deployed Across the City
The 2026-27 school year has begun, and LADOT is pleased to announce we are deploying nearly 500 crossing guards to help students get to and from school safely as well as educate young Angelenos about road safety.
Over the summer, LADOT hired and trained an additional fifty crossing guards to replace those who had retired or not renewed their employment. Crossing guard location assignments are determined by a methodology adopted by City Council to prioritize locations of greatest need.
Crossing guards are deployed mornings and afternoons for the duration of the school year. If you see an LADOT crossing guard on your commute, be sure to give them a smile and a wave!
Join LADOT at the Sunset Boulevard Virtual Open House Tonight
Tonight is your last chance to hear from LADOT and share your feedback on the proposed redesign for Sunset Boulevard! At 6:00 pm tonight, August 26th, LADOT will be hosting a Virtual Open House via Zoom for the Sunset Boulevard Safety and Mobility Project.

Apply for Metro's Visionary Seed Fund
Los Angeles Metro has just launched $1.9 million in available funding from the Visionary Seed Fund (VSF) Grant Program.
The VSF Round 2 award cycle will fund innovative mobility pilot projects that focus on improving the daily rider experience through bus stop and transit station improvements.

Resources For Residents Affected by Lineage Warehouse Fire
As the City of Los Angeles and Council District 14 continue recovery efforts following the June 17 Lineage Warehouse Fire in Boyle Heights, LADOT wishes to make residents aware of the following resources available to affected Angelenos:
Business Recovery: Low-interest federal Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL) are now available to small businesses and nonprofits impacted by the warehouse fire in Boyle Heights. Customer service representatives will be on hand at Business Recovery Centers in the LA area to assist with applications. Explore Boyle Heights Business Recovery Resources.
Community Resource Center: A new location for the Community Resource Center at Boyle Heights City Hall, 2130 E. 1st Street. Learn about the Community Resource Center.
Free Buses: LADOT is making temporary service adjustments to serve Boyle Heights residents, offering additional free buses in the area. Two additional buses have been added to the Boyle Heights DASH route, operating daily with free service every 10-15 minutes until further notice.
LADOT has also temporarily waived fares for Cityride Dial-a-Ride service for seniors and people with disabilities. A Cityride van is stationed at LAC+USC Medical Center to provide emergency transportation. Service runs daily from 6:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Community Notifications: The Mayor’s Office has created a dedicated WhatsApp channel for Boyle Heights residents to receive regular updates on the recovery process. Download WhatsApp Messenger for free from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
