Shaping LA’s Mobility Future
LADOT has been out across Los Angeles connecting with residents to shape the City’s Mobility Action Plan, which will prioritize transportation infrastructure investments over the next five and 20 years. From November 2025 through March 2026, our team met people where they are—at parks, transit stations, and community events—gathering input on how we can build a safer, more accessible, and more connected transportation system.
Through this effort, we engaged more than 4,500 Angelenos at nearly 30 events across the city. We also partnered with five community-based organizations to ensure we reached high-need communities in meaningful ways. This feedback will inform the final action plan, which we expect to release later this summer.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to share their voice and help shape the future of mobility in LA! We look forward to sharing more updates this summer as the plan continues to take shape.

CicLAvia Rolls Through West LA
Last Sunday, Angelenos walked, biked, skated, and rolled through three miles of open streets at CicLAvia: West LA! From 9am to 4pm, portions of Westwood Boulevard and Santa Monica Boulevard were closed to cars and open for a day of exploring and community connection. LADOT staff were on hand at the Westwood Hub to provide information about the Westwood Boulevard Safety and Mobility Project. Thanks to those who came out and shared their feedback with us!
Mark your calendars for the next open streets event on Sunday, June 28–CicLAvia: Leimert Park Meets Expo Park

Now Hiring: Crossing Guards
LADOT is now accepting applications for new Crossing Guards! Crossing guards keep students safe traveling to and from school and help instill safe, alert walking behaviors in young Angelenos. Our crossing guards are placed at schools throughout the City and educate children on how to navigate a street crossing while increasing their visibility to drivers.
If you are interested in applying for a crossing guard position, please visit LADOT website.

LADOT Leads Guided Bike Tour and Open House to Improve Koreatown and Pico Union
On Saturday, April 18, LADOT, in partnership with BikeLA, led a guided bike tour and open house for the Koreatown–Pico Union Neighborhood Connect project. This planned 2-mile route is designed to create a safer, more comfortable connection for walking and biking between Koreatown and Pico-Union using calm neighborhood streets. Following the tour, participants were able to learn more about the project, explore proposed design options, ask questions, and share feedback to help shape the final plan. Thanks to all who came out and shared their opinions with us!

LADOT Presents on UBM at Data + Donuts
Last Wednesday, LADOT’s Jillian Gallard and Nataly Rios presented “Using Universal Basic Mobility Principles to Evolve How We Define, Measure, and Deliver Transportation Equity in Los Angeles” at the Data + Donuts speaker series in downtown LA. Their talk covered LADOT’s Universal Basic Mobility (UBM) Pilot Program, including the program’s components, goals, and the kind of data collected so far. They also discussed how LADOT is expanding the framework of UBM to other parts of the department, like the Mobility Action Plan.
If you missed the talk, you can watch the archived livestream on Data + Donut’s YouTube page.

LADOT and Partners Celebrate Conclusion of STEP Grant
Last week, STEP partners, community members, and LADOT staff gathered to celebrate the conclusion of the Sustainable Transportation Equity Project (STEP) grant from the California Air Resources Board (CARB). CARB launched the STEP grant program in 2019 to help communities reduce greenhouse gas emissions, increase access to clean transportation and address community transportation needs through transportation and land use projects in climate burdened neighborhoods. STEP is part of California Climate Investments, a statewide initiative that puts billions of Cap-and-Trade dollars to work reducing greenhouse gas emissions, strengthening the economy, and improving public health and the environment, particularly in disadvantaged communities.
The CARB STEP program awarded LADOT a $13.8M grant in 2022, forming the backbone funding for LADOT's Universal Basic Mobility (UBM) pilot. Learn more about the Learn more about the UBM pilot.
