It's been nearly two years since construction began on the $19.5 million Reseda Blvd Complete Streets Project in October 2020. This multi-agency project will transform Reseda Blvd between Parthenia St and Victory Blvd with pavement rehabilitation and roadway safety improvements, including:

Breaking Ground for Reimagine Ventura Blvd

Safety improvements and a new street design are underway along a half-mile stretch of Ventura Blvd in Woodland Hills. Last week, Councilmember Bob Blumenfield, business owners, and community members joined LADOT at a groundbreaking for the Re-Imagine Ventura Project.

Ventura Blvd is one of LA's most iconic streets and synonymous with the Valley. However, many parts of the street are not conducive to multiple modes of travel such as biking and walking. This project will establish the stretch of Ventura from Royer Avenue to Sale Avenue as a…

Barrington Avenue & Missouri Avenue Crosswalk

LADOT received a service request in February of this year for the installation of a crosswalk to be located across Barrington Avenue at Missouri Avenue. LADOT carefully analyzed the location and decided to install the crosswalk on the north leg of this intersection, due to the existing street geometry where the south leg of Barrington Avenue at Missouri Avenue is 15 feet wider than the north leg.

In order to encourage drivers to slow down while making a right turn onto Missouri Avenue from southbound Barrington Avenue and to…

Rainbow Halo Installed In Memory Of Brian Hull

Last week, we joined the family of Brian Hull at the Intersection of W 89 St. & S Broadway for the installation of a Rainbow Halo. Six years ago, Brian was killed by a hit-and-run driver, merely blocks from his home at the age of 28. The permanent Rainbow Halo memorial fixture will honor the memory of Brian Hull and serve as a reminder of the responsibility each of us has when behind the wheel of a car. At the Department of Transportation, we too have a responsibility to bear witness and to build a transportation system that prioritizes…

Western Our Way Safety Project

Thanks to your feedback and sharing your thoughts and experiences of how you travel on Western Ave, we have finished the project design phase for safety improvements on the “Western Our Way” Safety Project. This project seeks to make improvements along Western Ave from MLK Jr. Blvd to Century Blvd. Between 2010 and 2019, 136 severe and fatal collisions occurred on this section of Western Ave. Many of those occur due to high speeds and unprotected left turns.

We are committed to eliminating traffic deaths and addressing the long history of…

New Signal at Fletcher and Ripple

We were out in the Elysian Valley neighborhood last week installing a new left-turn signal on Fletcher and Ripple. Left turn signals are one of the most effective safety improvements for reducing crashes between turning vehicles and people crossing. The way it works allows for drivers to have a designated signal, usually a left turn arrow, that stops oncoming traffic to give drivers making a left turn the complete right of way. Later those crossing have an opportunity to cross with a walk signal while the left turn gets a red arrow. Safety improvements…

Los Angeles Wraps Up A Successful and Safe IX Summit Of The Americas

Last week, Los Angeles showed once again why we are a place that attracts people from across the world as leaders and dignitaries from across the Western Hemisphere gathered for a successful ninth Summit of the Americas. This was the first summit held within the United States since the first was held almost three decades ago in Miami. While we know the event had an impact on many Angeleno's commutes in the downtown area, we want to give a special shout-out to our LADOT Special Traffic Operations for safely securing…

Los Angeles Hosts The IX Summit Of The Americas: Traffic and Transit Impacts

This week Los Angeles welcomed the IX Summit of the Americas to Los Angeles. From June 6-10 world leaders will gather to focus on shared goals for the future. This is only the second time the United States has hosted since 1994 when the inaugural summit was held in Miami.

As Heads-of-State and diplomats from across the Western Hemisphere gather together, Angelenos should prepare for some traffic impacts including road closures and detours. It is advised that you avoid the Downtown Los Angeles area as…

LADOT’s top priority is ensuring the safety of our streets. This is especially critical for people when they are walking or rolling on our streets when they are most vulnerable and at the highest risk of serious injury and death in a traffic collision. To prioritize the use of our limited resources, we rely on a data-driven system that is informed and enhanced by the requests we receive directly from residents, and the expertise of our community partners, whom we engage with regularly. In 2021 alone, LADOT worked to install or improve hundreds of critical safety treatments across the city…
