Celebrating Phase 3 of the San Fernando Bike Path

Celebrating Phase 3 of the San Fernando Bike Path

Last week, we celebrated the completion of Phase 3 of the San Fernando Bike Path, a project that underscores our commitment to creating a more connected, sustainable, and cyclist-friendly Los Angeles. This latest phase adds 4.75 miles of a separated bike path, stretching from Branford Street to Cohasset Street, and completes a continuous 9.8-mile stretch of bicycle facilities that now link Sylmar to Burbank.

This bike path is a vital transportation link that connects people traveling by bike to job centers, residential neighborhoods, and several Metrolink stations. We’ve designed this path with your safety and convenience in mind, incorporating features such as paved bus stop waiting areas, bikeway lighting, safety fencing, and bicycle-activated signals at intersections.

This project is a testament to LADOT’s commitment to building a more connected and livable Los Angeles. We encourage you to explore this newly transformed space and take advantage of the benefits it brings to our community.

Ribbon Cutting for 4th and Clarence Active Transportation Project

Ribbon Cutting for 4th and Clarence Active Transportation Project

Last week, LADOT joined with Council District 14 and the Department of Public Works to cut the ribbon on the 4th St and Clarence St Active Transportation Project in Boyle Heights! This project is designed to connect Boyle Heights residents to the new 6th St Viaduct and future park improvements planned for under the bridge.

Transportation improvements at this location include transforming Clarence St to one-way from 4th to 6th as well as the addition of a new traffic signal at 4th St and Clarence St with reversible lane accessories. The project also includes pedestrian lighting, sidewalk repairs, and new trees along Jesse, 6th, Clarence, and Anderson to make the area more pedestrian friendly.

Latino Heritage Month Employee Spotlight

Latino Heritage Month Employee Spotlight

Each week during this Latino Heritage Month, we will spotlight staff members at LADOT with Hispanic roots. Each has a unique story to tell and plays an integral part in the operations of LADOT to keep our City moving.

Cynthia Duenas

Cynthia DuenasCynthia Duenas is a Management Analyst at the Van Nuys Adjudication office. Her journey within the department reflects her dedication and perseverance, rising from part-time hearing examiner to her current role.

Her story begins in Los Angeles, where she was born and raised by parents who immigrated from El Salvador. “My parents' desire for a better life than what they had in their home country has helped me always strive for the opportunities this country/city offers,” she reflected.

Starting her career with LADOT in 2008, she quickly moved up the ranks. Cynthia became a full-time hearing examiner, served as an acting management analyst on two different occasions, and ultimately earned her current role as a management analyst. “I am also proud that my first opportunity as an acting management analyst started when the pandemic started, which were extremely challenging times everywhere," she said.

What Cynthia loves most about Los Angeles is its diversity. “I love that Los Angeles is a city where you get to meet, work and interact with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures. There are people here from every part of the world and to me that's the best environment to grow up in, to live and to work in,” she shared. For Cynthia, LA’s cultural fusion offers endless opportunities for personal and professional growth.

Fabio Arias

Fabio AriasFabio Arias serves as Acting Sr. Transportation Engineer for the Permit Plan Review and Airports Division where he leads three engineering sections: Citywide Temporary Traffic Control, Development Permit Services, and the Airport Construction Program in support of private development and public infrastructure projects across Los Angeles.

Fabio’s journey to Los Angeles began when he was 7 years old. His father immigrated to Los Angeles from Colombia in 1977, a year before the rest of the family. During that time, his father lived with an aunt and uncle, helping to build a small addition to their house after night shifts and weekends to prepare for the family’s arrival. “In the summer of 1978, my mom, two sisters, brother, and I arrived in Los Angeles. Our family stayed one year with our aunt and uncle until we moved to a home in Granada Hills,” he recalled.

In his current role, Fabio finds pride in the way his works improve the City, whether by assisting council offices on a request or by approving plans that will redevelop and improve an intersection or a stretch of roadway. One project that brings him great satisfaction is the ongoing improvements around LAX. “The People Mover Project will provide an easier connection to LAX via an Automated People Mover to the Metro Line, Airport Metro Connector, Rental Car Facility, and Economy Parking Lot,” he explained.

What Fabio loves most about Los Angeles is its diversity. “Nowhere else can you have great friends from many different backgrounds and find so many things in common,” he shared. He also appreciates the variety of activities and destinations, from beaches to deserts to mountains, that make Los Angeles such a unique place to live.
