SoCal Transit Month
This September, LADOT is proud to support SoCal Transit Month! Transit is more than just getting from point A to point B -- it’s about connecting with our city, reducing congestion, and making our communities more accessible for everyone. All month long, Angelenos have been coming together at events across the region to share stories, take rides, and highlight the impact of public transportation in our daily lives.
Here at LADOT, we’re proud to offer a variety of transit options that keep Los Angeles moving forward. From our DASH and Commuter Express buses, to our innovative shared mobility program LAnow, and our On-Demand Senior Access program City Ride which recently launched routes in South LA, LADOT provides safe, reliable, and affordable transportation for riders of all ages and abilities. Every ride on LADOT transit is a step toward a cleaner, greener, and more connected Los Angeles.
As SoCal Transit Month comes to a close, I encourage you to keep the celebration going. There are still some events in the coming days where you can experience the fun and excitement. Try a new route, invite a friend to ride with you, or simply take a moment to appreciate the role transit plays in your everyday life. Together, we can keep building a city where getting around is safe, affordable, and enjoyable for all.

New Pedestrian Signal Activated in Westlake
Last week, LADOT gathered with Council District 1 to celebrate the activation of a new pedestrian signal at the intersection of James M Wood Blvd and Bonnie Brae St in Westlake. This new Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFD) is one of thirteen that will be installed at various locations throughout the City thanks to a grant from the Caltrans Highway Safety Improvement Program. The new RRFB will make pedestrians safer while walking to the nearby Hope and Peace Park, as well as businesses, churches, and other destinations in the area.
In addition to the new beacon, four new ADA-compliant pedestrian access ramps have been installed by the Bureau of Engineering at all four corners of the intersection. LADOT would like to thank CD 1 and BoE for their collaboration on this safety improvement.

Latino Heritage Month Employee Spotlight
Each week during Latino Heritage Month, LADOT will spotlight staff members with Hispanic roots. Each has a unique story to tell and plays an integral part in the operations of LADOT to keep our City moving.
Luis Martinez
Luis Martinez serves as a Sergeant in the Parking Enforcement Division of LADOT’s Valley Area office, overseeing Care Plus operations, Inside Safe, abandoned vehicle requests, as well as collaborating with five area council offices.
Luis’s parents emigrated from Mexico to Northeast Los Angeles, where Luis and his siblings were born. This makes our family part of the generations who have contributed to this city,
says Luis. This history deeply influences my path in life, instilling in me a strong sense of community and a commitment to public service.
In his time at LADOT, Luis is most proud of his work with the Mayor’s Inside Safe Project and Care Plus operations, through which he can directly contribute to addressing the issues of homelessness. Collaboratively assisting in these operations with our city partners and providing vital services and resources to our unhoused population is incredibly rewarding,
he shares.
For anyone wanting to experience the influence of Latino heritage in Los Angeles, Luis recommends Mariachi Plaza, El Mercadito, or Olvera Street. These locations offer a glimpse into the city's Mexican roots, with delicious food, traditional arts and crafts, and lively cultural events while providing a unique and fun-filled experience,
he says.

September is SoCal Transit Month
September is SoCal Transit Month, a month-long celebration presented by Metro. Events like Bus Fest, Metro art tours, group bike rides, and much more are happening across the region all month long.
Whether you’re an avid transit rider, a pro cyclist, an experienced public advocate, a transit-dependent student, or just a community member trying to learn more, Transit Month allows all of us to come together to support and celebrate public transit, the essential resource that keeps us moving, our economies growing, and our environment healthier.
This week’s lineup of events includes a rally for LA Metro Electric Buses at Union Station, a workshop for older adults in Glendora, and Rail Infrastructure Beach Day, where Californians for Electric Rail will lead a trip from the Irvine Metrolink Station to San Clemente beach.
With lots of events, festivities, and contests, Transit Month is an excellent opportunity to celebrate public transit and find community. We hope to see you on board! Check out the calendar of events.

Help Shape The Future of the SR 710 Stub
Caltrans is hosting a forum with the goal of developing a community-informed reuse strategy for the SR 710 stub. The extension of SR 710 was officially canceled in 2018, leaving behind a segment of unused freeway infrastructure in Alhambra and Los Angeles. Early proposals include protected bike lanes and pedestrian pathways, improved rail corridor crossings, affordable and student housing, or multimodal linkages to LA Metro, Metrolink, and Cal State LA.
The community forum will take place on Wednesday, October 8 from 6pm-8pm at Cal State University Campus (parking & location on campus TBD.) Light refreshments will be provided. Register for the community forum. Community members can also take a survey to share their thoughts.
