Los Angeles Hosts the ITS World Congress Conference

This week world leaders, practitioners, policymakers, researchers, and private industries have gathered together at the Los Angeles Convention Center for ITS World Congress. LA is a leader in transforming mobility and advancing transportation technology making it a premiere venue for this global discussion on transforming transportation. Thousands of industry professionals are here to discover, connect and learn. The final day of the conference is tomorrow September 22nd.

New Speed Tables in Elysian Valley

Brand new speed tables have made their debut on Riverside Dr. in Elysian Valley. Speed tables are similar to speed humps in that they serve to calm traffic. However, speed tables are longer than speed humps and raised a few inches off the ground and flat-topped in order to raise the entire wheelbase of the car. This allows speed tables to be installed on larger arterial streets whereas speed humps are reserved for low-volume residential streets. These devices nonetheless ensure slower, safer car speeds that protect the safety of neighborhoods with heavily populated pedestrian areas such as nearby businesses and schools.

New Bike Lane Coming To 3rd Street

The 3rd Street Bike Lane Gap Closure Project will deliver a new street design to 3rd street. Over the next two weeks, our crews will add a parking-protected bike lane on 3rd street from Alameda to Main St in Downtown Los Angeles.

For this project, we worked with our partners at StreetsLA which is in the process of resurfacing the street. Following resurfacing, LADOT crews will restripe the street with a parking protected bike lane. 3rd Street is designated as a Tier 1 Bicycle Enhanced Network (BEN) in the Mobility Plan 2035 which means it’s on LADOT’s list of streets to prioritize for bicycle and mobility enhancement. Once implemented, this segment will close the current bicycle network gap on 3rd Street from San Pedro Street to Main Street to improve connectivity and safety for people traveling by bike in DTLA.

Community Bike Ride in Wilmington

Over the weekend, we celebrated the safety improvements planned for Wilmington Blvd! Through a community bike ride, we had the opportunity to experience the project areas present conditions as we plan safety improvements designed to improve safety conditions and connectivity for all road users. We were also able to connect with community members to hear their feedback on what safety features they would like to see along the corridor.

Latino Heritage Month Spotlight: Olvera Street

This week we spotlight one of the oldest parts of Los Angeles. Olvera Street opened in 1930 as an outdoor marketplace after its original settlements were threatened with demolition. It is known as the ‘birthplace of Los Angeles.’ Today, Olvera Street is a popular market and dining attraction where visitors can get a true look into the blend of Spanish, Mexican, and American culture with art, historic architecture, and delicious food. Plan a visit to Olvera Street using our DASH B route and take in its authentic history.

Venice Boulevard Mobility Improvements

The City of Los Angeles and Metro are bringing mobility upgrades to Venice Blvd from Lincoln Blvd to National Blvd. This project proposes adding active transportation and bus improvements to increase comfort and safety for all who travel on Venice Blvd. Let us know how you use Venice Blvd and how to best improve it using this survey.

Reseda Boulevard Complete Streets Project

As part of the Complete Streets Program, the City is reconstructing Reseda Blvd to improve safety and accessibility for all. Give your feedback on the upcoming improvement and receive updates and more information on the project here.
