Ride Through The Heart Of LA with CicLAvia

Get ready for a scenic ride through the Heart of LA. CicLAvia returns this weekend Sunday, October 9th with 7 miles of open streets in Downtown Los Angeles including the first CicLAvia to take place on the new 6th Street Viaduct!

CicLAvia temporarily closes down roads to car traffic allowing Angelenos to jog, ride, bike, skate, run, walk, skateboard, and enjoy the route however they want. It connects communities to each other across an expansive city, creating a safe place to explore Los Angeles County. Come out from 9 am to 4 pm and find some gems in the Heart of LA.

3rd Street Bike Lane Gap Closure

The installation of the new parking-protected bike lane is complete and we have officially closed the bicycle network gap on 3rd Street from San Pedro Street to Main Street. The new street design, which also includes fresh paint and upgraded high-visibility crosswalks helps make this bicycle networks much safer and more accessible. These safety improvements allowed us to reach our goals for this project.

 

• Address safety and support people who are biking, scootering, and walking in the community
• Connect Downtown and Little Tokyo and create a more comfortable trip between destinations/commercial hubs and close the network gaps
• Implement the City’s Mobility Plan 2035
• Consider an opportunity to coordinate City agency efforts to deliver infrastructure effectively
• Declutter sidewalks for pedestrians
• Improve options for sustainable transportation in Little Tokyo/DTLA

LACI Training Course Accepting Applications

Applications are open for the LACI Training Course. LACI is providing 15 participants with a 3-day course taking an in-depth look at batteries for electric vehicles. The training will be October 17-19 from 8 am to 4:30 pm at the LACI campus. Knowing how to safely handle batteries for Electric Vehicles is vital to any mechanic or technician. This course will help students develop this knowledge through a combination of lectures and hands-on work. Resources that are provided to program participants include:

 

• Paid Stipend of $350 upon completion of training
• Technology Assistance (i.e Laptop Rentals)
• Transportation (i.e gas reimbursement)

To be eligible for the program participants must be:

• 18 Years of Age or Older
• Have a High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Be a LA County Resident
• Low-Moderate Income
• Currently Under or Unemployed

Mobility Wallet Applications Open To Qualified Residents In South L.A.

As part of LADOT's South LA Universal Basic Mobility pilot program, the City Of Los Angeles and Metro are offering South L.A residents a chance to receive $150 per month for transportation costs. The Mobility Wallet Pilot Program is now accepting applications for the program which will ultimately provide subsidies for 1000 people that meet the eligibility criteria. Program participants will receive a prepaid debit card to be used to buy fare on public transit (bus or train) and other shared transit options including e-scooters, bikes, carshare, ride-hailing and taxis.

To be eligible you must: 

 

• Be 18 years of age or older
• Live in the South Los Angeles area outlined by the program 
• Meet the program’s household annual income requirement. 

Applications will be accepted until Nov 1, 2022. Metro will complete a randomized selection if the program receives a surplus of applicants.

We recently recognized the legendary Vicente Fernandez, the king of ranchera music in Boyle Heights. Community members, fans, and family gathered for a street dedication in his name near Mariachi Plaza. This Latino Heritage Month, plan a visit to see this dedication using our Boyle Heights DASH line or listen to a few of his tunes to learn more about the influence on global music.

Beginning October 6th, LADOT will start taking new applications for its residential Speed Hump Program. The intent of the hump is to reduce the speed limit to 30 MPH or less.
