Share Your Feedback on Connect Del Rey
Check out our Connect Del Rey project—a comprehensive initiative to enhance mobility, safety, and connectivity in our Westside neighborhoods! In the coming days and weeks, LADOT staff will be hosting virtual and in-person meetings to share information and listen to residents provide feedback regarding plans to make streets in Playa del Rey safer and more accessible for all, whether you walk, bike, or drive.
Community input is essential to shaping LADOT projects. That’s why we are committed to providing multiple opportunities for you to engage with us at all stages of project planning and development. Through a combination of digital surveys, neighborhood pop-ups, as well as virtual and in-person town halls, our staff is able to gather your feedback as we refine and update designs to ensure it meets the needs of the individuals and communities most impacted.
Based on this feedback, we’ve learned that the Del Rey community is particularly interested in treatments like protected bike lanes, updated pedestrian crosswalks, and intersection upgrades that will make traveling safer and more accessible for everyone. I encourage you to join us for a virtual meeting on October 17th at 7pm or an in-person open house on October 27th from 11am to 4pm to learn more about these improvements and share your thoughts. You can also learn about the project online on our website. Your voice plays a vital role in shaping the final outcome of Connect Del Rey, and we look forward to your input!
CicLAvia Brings Open Streets to the Heart of LA
Last weekend, Angelenos embraced the energy of CicLAvia: Heart of LA! Over 7.5 miles of open streets were transformed into a car-free park for a day, connecting the neighborhoods of DTLA, Boyle Heights, Chinatown, Echo Park, and Little Tokyo. Participants of all ages enjoyed jogging, walking, skating, and riding, along with street games, local business engagements, and connecting with City services.
LADOT is proud to partner with CicLAvia as the organization continues to transform our City, offering residents and visitors a new way to experience neighborhoods and discover the spirit of each community. Mark your calendars for the next CicLAvia on December 8, when the event moves to the Valley!

New Traffic Signal in Rampart Village
Installation of a new traffic signal is underway at the intersection of Hoover St, W 3rd St, and S Vendome St in Rampart Village, replacing a pedestrian flashing beacon. In addition to the new signal, the complex three-way intersection will receive new ADA-compliant pedestrian ramps, new striping, and yellow crosswalks. These safety improvements will make it easier for students and parents to reach the nearby Commonwealth Avenue Elementary School and encourage active transportation in the neighborhood.
Theodore Bikel Square Dedicated in Mid-Wilshire
On Sunday, October 6th, the community gathered for the dedication of the new Theodore Bikel Square at Wilshire Blvd and S Curson Ave. Theodore Bikel was an actor, folk singer, composer, civil rights activist, and union leader. As an actor, he created the role of Captain von Trapp in the original Broadway production of The Sound of Music and was nominated for an Academy Award for his performance in The Defiant Ones. Off the stage and screen, Bikel was dedicated to establishing strong representation and financial security for performing artists. Bikel co-founded the Actors Federal Credit Union, was president of Actors’ Equity, and served on the National Council for the Arts under President Jimmy Carter.
LADOT's Sign Shop created the Theodore Bikel Square signs and our Western District Engineering office coordinated their installation. We are proud to help honor Bikel’s contributions to the stage and film industries as well as his activism and union leadership.
