Announcing LA's First Capital Infrastructure Program
Earlier this month, Mayor Bass announced Los Angeles’ first Capital Infrastructure Program (CIP), laying out a roadmap for the City to reform and improve the way it maintains and builds new infrastructure. LA’s Capital Infrastructure Program includes 10 recommendations to achieve this vision. You can learn more about the CIP and read those recommendations on the CIP Overview website.
Our City’s ability to build and maintain roads, sidewalks, curb ramps, and other public infrastructure directly impacts the transportation experiences and choices of Angelenos. The recently launched CIP will ensure critical infrastructure improvements are based on data and the needs of residents. As a part of this effort, LADOT is developing a Mobility Action Plan (MAP) with a prioritized project list that will serve as the CIP’s mobility chapter, ensuring transportation investments are coordinated, equitable, and aligned with our infrastructure priorities.
This announcement is a crucial step as we prepare for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games and beyond. I look forward to working with our City partners to bring the CIP to life.

New Hawk Signal in South LA
As part of LADOT’s Safe Routes to School program, crews activated a new HAWK Signal at Baring Cross Street and Manchester Avenue in South LA last week. Unlike traditional flashing beacons, HAWK signals provide drivers with a steady red light when pedestrians are crossing, making them more visible and safer. This HAWK signal will make it easier for students travelling to and from nearby schools, including Manchester Avenue Elementary School.

Last Chance to Share Feedback on Pico Boulevard
Between June and November 2025, LADOT staff were out in the community, sharing information about the Pico Boulevard Safety and Mobility Plan Project and learning about the needs and priorities of local residents and businesses. Based on the public’s feedback, LADOT is redesigning Pico Boulevard between Crenshaw Boulevard and Figueroa Street to include one travel lane in each direction, a center turn lane, and protected bike lanes. The project will also install new pedestrian signals at the New Hampshire Avenue and Manhattan Place intersections, and make improvements to sidewalks and curb ramps.
As the project enters the final design phase, the project team is reconnecting with residents and businesses to share additional details and promote awareness. Submit comments on proposed improvements via the Pico Blvd project feedback form by May 31, 2026.
LADOT will also host an Open House and Community Event on Saturday, May 30th from 10am-1pm at Alvarado Terrace Park, 1342 S. Alvarado St. The community will have the chance to speak to LADOT staff and learn about the project design. RSVP to the Pico Blvd Project Open House to let us know you’ll be there!
