LADOT Breaks Ground on the Chandler Bicycle Connection
LADOT recently joined Council District 2, the Bureau of Engineering, and Metro to break ground on the Chandler Bike Connection! The Chandler Bike Connection will upgrade the existing bicycle lanes on Chandler Boulevard to protected lanes with bollards and curb stops for a riding experience that is safer and more comfortable for riders of all ages and abilities.
When complete, the Chandler Bike Connection will close the three mile gap between the Chandler and the Metro G Line Bike Paths–creating a continuous, safe, and protected bike route from Burbank to the Sepulveda Basin. This 21-mile route will be open for transportation and recreation in time for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
With its sunny weather and flat streets, the San Fernando Valley has all the ingredients for safe, convenient, multimodal transportation. The Chandler Bike Connection represents an expansion of our active transportation efforts in the Valley, and is part of a greater effort to improve air quality, traffic, and quality of life for residents. I look forward to the completion of this project by the 28 Games!

LADOT Activates Six Upgraded Signals
This month, LADOT crews have been hard at work improving pedestrian safety across the City. Two traffic signals have been upgraded to include permissive/protective left turn arrows, at Broadway and Vernon Avenue and 48th Street and Western Avenue. These upgrades help protect pedestrians from drivers turning left while maintaining a safe and smooth flow of traffic through the intersection.
Two additional intersections received an upgraded Pedestrian Hybrid Beacon, or HAWK signal: 10th Avenue and Florence Avenue and 78th Street and Main Street. An additional HAWK signal, at 80th Street and Western Avenue, is scheduled for activation tomorrow. The pedestrian beacon at 106th Street and Compton Avenue has also been upgraded to a traffic signal.
Thanks to our crews for their work to make our City streets safer for all and supporting pedestrian access to schools, shopping, and community resources.
