Taylor Yard Bicycle And Pedestrian Bridge Opening

The ribbon has been cut on the Taylor Yard Bicycle and Pedestrian Bridge! LADOT joined, Mayor Eric Garcetti, Supervisor and Metro Board Chair Hilda Solis, Councilmembers Gil Cedillo and Mitch O'Farrell, and the Bureau of Engineering to celebrate the opening of the roughly 400 foot long and 18-foot wide bridge this week.

This bridge connects Cypress Park and Elysian Park neighborhoods, two historic LA neighborhoods which have been long separated by channelization of the LA River. The bridge allows easy access for communities on the east side of the river to the LA River bike path on the west bank improving access to amenities and open space.

This project, which was made possible by funding from Metro, is the result of decades of activism to promote the restoration of the LA River. As the single geographic feature that connects our region from the San Fernando Valley to the South Bay through the heart of Los Angeles, LADOT is committed to of completing a continuous bike path along the full length of the LA River in partnership with Metro to provide recreation opportunities and access to open space for communities.

The Taylor Yard Bridge is one of three recently completed bridges that improve access to active transportation options across the LA river including the Red Car Pedestrian Bridge and The North Atwater Bridge completed in 2020.

The LA Marathon is ready and set to go on Sunday, March 20th

On Sunday morning the streets of Los Angeles will be filled with thousands of people ready to hit the ground running for the 37th running of the Los Angeles Marathon. Runners will take their mark at Dodgers Stadium and finish on the Avenue of the Stars in Century City.

Just as many are preparing and training for this moment, LADOT is working with LAFD, LAPD, LA County Sheriff, and other cities to ensure the safety of the route, participants, and spectators. If you are commuting through the city we ask that you please be advised that there will be road closures and detours on the day of the event. Learn more about the LA Marathon here.

SRTS Highlighted In NACTO Streets Pandemic Response Programs Report.

LADOT is proud to share that the NACTO Streets Pandemic Response & Grant Program Report highlighted our SRTS School Street Pilot at Dayton Heights Elementary, on Westmoreland between Melrose and Clinton.

Last summer as children began returning to school, SRTS partnered with LAUSD and Los Angeles Walks to create safer bicycle and pedestrian access to schools in these two particular communities that had been hit the hardest by COVID-19. Together we developed a temporary pedestrian/bicycle-only zone during student drop-off on the block of Dayton Heights Elementary’s main entrance. At Manchester Avenue Elementary, Los Angeles Walks hosted a virtual design workshop to help get a better picture and understanding of the safety and travel concerns of school and non-school community members.

During this SRTS pilot, 18 parking spaces were temporarily transformed into play and pedestrian spaces, and 118 participants engaged in 27 events from October to November. We are proud of the work that our SRTS team does to help keep our children safe when traveling to and from school.

We want to thank everyone that helped work on this project. The Office of Council District 13 for the School Street Resolution, LAUSD District, OEHS and Dayton Heights Elementary support, DOT District Engineer and Field Operations to help pioneer signs and materials implementation, Los Angeles Walks for stellar community engagement, staff and fiscal management and School Street Staff - who arrived each morning with smiles and energy to engage the children and families to kick start their day of learning.

Women's History Month LADOT Spotlight: Lisa Figueroa

As we continue to uplift and celebrate the achievements of women, this month we would like to acknowledge Traffic Officer II Lisa Figueroa who was recognized by the Los Angeles City Council's Transportation Committee as an LADOT Outstanding Performer last year.

Lisa’s daily responsibilities include overseeing the daily operations of Squad 5 (North Hollywood Area) as well as ensuring every employee in the Valley Division completed The Anti-Bias Learning for Employees (ABLE) training course. She has also ensured that Officers have access to and are supported in successfully completing right-hand drive vehicle training. In total o4 training classes were provided and 13 officers have been certified to safely operate the right-hand drive vehicles within her division.

Thank you for your dedication to our employees and the safety of Angelenos.

Mask Mandate Extended For Public Transportation

The federal mask mandate for public transportation has been extended for one month until April 18. In order to protect the safety of riders and drivers, we ask that all riders continue to observe the mandate when riding all forms of public transportation.

Riverside construction update

Improvements on Riverside drive continue to move forward this week. Striping started early Wednesday and is expected to be completed by end of the coming week. These improvements are a part of the Riverside Drive Mobility Improvement Project. LADOT is working with StreetsLA and the Office of Councilmember Nithya Raman to make Riverside Dr more livable and connected to the surrounding area for people biking and walking.

The upcoming improvements feature new protected bicycle lanes on both sides of Riverside Drive, signage, new pavement markings, repainted crosswalks, and changes to the roadway to improve safety and better connect users along this section of Riverside Drive. Please be aware of posted notifications from the City of Los Angeles regarding scheduled work in the right-of-way and temporary parking restrictions on specific days. Purple Line Extention Construction Notice

Please be advised that beginning this week construction will begin in preparation for the Purple (D Line) Extension Section 3 Project.

The daytime installation will be on Eastbound Wilshire Bl at Glendon Ave from March 16th through April 1st Monday to Friday, 9 am to 3:30 pm. Work zones will require temporary lane reductions on Wilshire Bl between Westwood Bl and Selby Av.

The nighttime installation is on Westbound Wilshire Blvd at Westwood Blvd. from March 15 through 21st Monday to Friday, 11 pm to 6 am. Work zones will require temporary lane reductions on Wilshire Blvd between Westwood Blvd and Malcolm Ave.

We ask that you please slow down when nearing a work zone area and watch for workers.
