New Signal at Fletcher and Ripple
We were out in the Elysian Valley neighborhood last week installing a new left-turn signal on Fletcher and Ripple. Left turn signals are one of the most effective safety improvements for reducing crashes between turning vehicles and people crossing. The way it works allows for drivers to have a designated signal, usually a left turn arrow, that stops oncoming traffic to give drivers making a left turn the complete right of way. Later those crossing have an opportunity to cross with a walk signal while the left turn gets a red arrow. Safety improvements like these are part of the city's Vision Zero efforts to end traffic violence. We target improvements based upon data to identify where investments can make the greatest impact in preventing loss of life on our streets.

Electric Commuter Express Service
LADOT has deployed its first zero-emission electric coach bus on Commuter Express between Union Station and El Segundo.
Last week, the new electric vehicle will begin its service at Union Station, picking up passengers in Downtown Los Angeles and taking them to El Segundo (CE 439 route), then returning to Downtown LA from El Segundo (CE 438 route). The vehicle is equipped with a host of safety features and was manufactured locally in Southern California. The newly delivered bus is capable of transporting up to 57 passengers at a time with an estimated range of 170 miles and a charging time of 3 - 3.5 hours. Charging will take place at LADOT’s electrified Downtown bus facility. This is part of our ongoing effort to fully electrify LADOT's fleet by 2028.
