As public health concerns continue to develop and are addressed, LADOT remains committed to ensuring the health and safety of all city residents and visitors as they travel around Los Angeles. With our city continuing to combat the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, LADOT will provide ongoing support for public health measures and projects that promote safe transit and street environments. To facilitate safe transit accessibility, LADOT reminds Angelenos that masks are currently required for riders on local public transportation routes, including LADOT Transit's popular DASH bus service, which is currently free for all passengers. Project Spotlight: The Exposition Bike Path Northvale Segment

LADOT is currently working to construct a new bikeway north of I-10 between Motor Avenue and Overland Avenue. This project aims to close the existing gap in the Expo Bike Path, completing a continuous bikeway that runs roughly parallel to the Metro E (Expo) Line from Culver City to Santa Monica, and will help expand the city's ever-growing network of safe bicycle paths.

StreetsLA Demonstrates New Bus Shelter Designs

In preparation for a new and updated Sidewalk and Transit Amenities Program (STAP), StreetsLA will give the general public the opportunity to see and give feedback on proposed new bus shelters and technology features.

StreetsLA is currently hosting public demonstrations provided by the top two potential contractors until Friday, July 30, and invites members of the public to join them at one of the demonstrations listed below to give feedback on what features they would like to see moving forward. StreetsLA will use this feedback to negotiate with the winning contractor on the features to incorporate into the next generation of customized bus shelters designed to accommodate the needs of Angelenos.

STAP Demonstration Schedule (12:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. each day):

• July 21-22: Downtown - City Hall on Main Street
• July 23-24: West Valley (Reseda) - 19040 Vanowen Street
• July 25-26: West Los Angeles - 1645 Corinth Avenue
• July 27-28: South LA - 8475 South Vermont Avenue
• July 29-30: San Pedro - 638 South Beacon Street

The Adams Boulevard Safety Improvements Project

LADOT is currently conducting a redesign of Adams Boulevard that will improve safety for all forms of transportation. Over the past ten years, nine people have been killed on Adams Boulevard between Fairfax Avenue and Crenshaw Boulevard, including six pedestrians — more than almost any other street in Los Angeles. Proposed changes include pavement repair, signal upgrades, bike lanes, lane reduction, pedestrian beacons, pedestrian refuge islands, and other safety treatments. Last month, to facilitate the process of public engagement and feedback, LADOT collaborated with the office Los Angeles City Council District 10 Councilmember Mark Ridley-Thomas to host "Walk the Boulevard," a community event highlighting the improvements slated for installation on Adams Boulevard in the coming months.

LADOT Crossing Guard Program Now Hiring

LADOT is now accepting applications for new crossing guards. Crossing guards provide traffic guidance at designated street intersections, allowing for a safer and calmer environment for students and their families as they travel to and from school. The city crossing guard program — jointly administered by LADOT's District Engineers, Traffic Control, and Safe Routes to School program — uses needs-based analyses to direct safety improvements and personnel to school zones. LADOT currently employs more than 300 crossing guards at 290 locations across Los Angeles.
