Speed Safety Systems Coming to LA
In the City of Los Angeles, approximately 300 people are killed in car crashes every year, and thousands more suffer serious injuries. LADOT continues to implement safety treatments and redesign roadways to reduce traffic crashes, and is expanding its safety toolbox with 125 speed safety systems that will be installed later this summer.
Speeding is the key factor that determines how severe or even deadly a traffic crash is, and speed safety systems are proven to reduce speeding and save lives by issuing low-cost tickets to speeding drivers. In Los Angeles, these systems will be installed on the City’s Priority Safety Corridors where there is a history of speed-related crashes, and in proximity to schools and senior centers.
With activation of the first systems planned by the end of August, LADOT wants to ensure everyone is familiar with the new system. Information about where systems are located, how citations are issued, and more are available at LA Speed Safety System website. To increase awareness, LADOT is promoting the website and other information at Metro Bike share kiosks, billboards, on social media, and at in-person events like CicLAvia and World Cup watch parties. Once activated, each camera location will be subject to a 60 day warning period in which violators will receive a written warning and program information in the mail rather than a citation.
When people know they will receive a ticket for speeding, they slow down. That is why this program – and our efforts to inform the public – is so critical to making streets safer. To learn more about speed safety systems and view a map of where systems will be installed, visit the LADOT website.

LADOT Presents to Teen Council at Chinatown Branch Library
Last weekend, LADOT’s Matthews Criboli and Elliott Shaw presented an Introduction to Transportation Planning to the Chinatown Teen Council at the Chinatown Branch Library. First, the group participated in a walk audit, highlighting traffic features and safety concerns around downtown. Following the walk audit, LADOT shared how we are working to address the problems through infrastructure and better street design. This presentation provided the Teen Council with a look into transportation planning as a career, as well as a better understanding of LADOT’s role in improving our City and how they can be involved.

CicLAvia Rolls Through Expo Park and Leimert Park
Last weekend, Angelenos explored 3.6 miles of open streets at CicLAvia: Leimert Park Meets Expo Park! From 9am until 4pm, portions of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Crenshaw Boulevard were closed to cars and open for a day of walking, jogging, biking, skating, and more. Participants also had the chance to view the Crenshaw Wall Mural adjacent to the route on a slow street presented by LADOT and Council District 8.
The next CicLAvia event is right around the corner! 6.6 miles of open streets connecting West Hollywood, Hollywood, and East Hollywood will be open for CicLAvia: Meet the Hollywoods on Sunday, July 19, 2026. Learn more about CicLAvia.
