Connecting With LA's Communities
LADOT is committed to ensuring residents, businesses, and other local stakeholders have the opportunity to make their voices heard on our planned projects. We firmly believe that Angelenos are the experts on the needs of their communities, and it is essential that the street and safety improvements we implement reflect those needs. LADOT engages with the community through a combination of methods:
- Surveys: Filling out a survey on one of our projects is a quick (most are under five minutes!) and easy way to share your feedback. You can find a list of our active surveys at the bottom of this and every newsletter, and saved to the
Highlights
of LADOT Instagram page. - Community Events: Our engagement teams are often present at pop-up tabling events near the project area, including at farmers markets, CicLAvias, and even grocery stores and shopping centers. This helps ensure we reach members of the community who aren’t subscribed to our emails or social media channels.
- Open Houses: LADOT hosts open house events where members of the community have the opportunity to hear directly from our project teams. Open house events go more in-depth than surveys and tabling events, featuring a presentation and a chance to ask questions.
LADOT is hosting a series of upcoming in-person and virtual open house events on upcoming safety and mobility projects on the Westside, as well as one February 28 on our MLK Boulevard Project! Join us and help shape the safety and mobility improvements currently underway in your community.

LADOT Wants to Hear From Transit Riders
Do you ride LADOT’s transit services, including DASH neighborhood buses, Commuter Express regional routes, LAnow microtransit, and Cityride Dial-a-Ride for seniors and persons with disabilities? LADOT wants to hear from you!
LADOT is rolling out Real Input Driving Everyday Routes (RIDER), a City-wide study that seeks to explore how LADOT’s transit services can better meet the needs of riders. Your feedback will help LADOT provide clear recommendations for improving reliability, efficiency, and equity across the transit system.
Take the RIDER survey by Sunday, March 15, 2026 to be entered into a drawing for a chance to receive a $50 VISA gift card. Limit one entry per person.
Now through mid-March, you may find RIDER Study teams at a DASH bus stop or community event near you! Feel free to stop by, say hello, grab some giveaways, and participate in our interactive activity!

Chinatown Golden Dragon Parade This Saturday
Be advised of road closures and detours on Hill Street, North Broadway, and surrounding streets in the Chinatown area this Saturday, February 21, for the 127th Golden Dragon Parade. Street closures will begin as early as 7:00 AM.
Expect delays and heavier than usual traffic in the event area. If traveling to the parade, consider using public transportation. If you must drive to or through the area, allow extra travel time, follow posted detours, and obey all Traffic Officer instructions.

UBM Pilot Program Aids South LA Food Distribution
LADOT’s Universal Basic Mobility (UBM) pilot program is helping community organizations feed South LA! South LA Cafe is a Black- and family-owned business with a mission to foster community and provide fresh, affordable, and healthy food options. Every Wednesday, South LA Cafe distributes grocery bags to 200 residents, made possible by donations, sponsorships, and volunteers.
Using funding from the CARB STEP grant, LADOT purchased an electric van for South LA Cafe as part of the UBM pilot program. This emission-free vehicle will assist with the Cafe’s food distribution service while helping reduce dangerous pollution in the neighborhood.
In addition to South LA Cafe, LADOT’s UBM program has provided an electric van to Food Revolution LA, a local organization that collects food that would otherwise go to waste from grocery stores and redistributes it to those in need. LADOT is proud to support these community groups in their efforts to ensure no Angeleno goes hungry.

Take the Sunset/Chavez Safety and Mobility Project Survey
LADOT is kicking off a new planning effort to improve safety and mobility along Sunset Boulevard and Cesar Chavez Avenue, between Fountain Avenue and Alameda Street. This major corridor connects neighborhoods across the city to key destinations such as Dodger Stadium, LA State Historic Park, Chinatown, Olvera Street, Union Station, and Downtown LA. Today there are critical gaps in the transportation network and ongoing safety concerns for people walking, biking, and taking public transit along the corridor.
We want to hear from you! LADOT is focused on understanding the full range of issues people experience along Sunset Boulevard and Cesar Chavez Avenue. We are especially interested in hearing from community members about safety concerns, access challenges, and ideas for how the street could function better for everyone.
Take Sunset/Chavez project survey to share your experience and let us know how the corridor can be improved for all road users. The survey is available until Tuesday, March 31, 2026, in English, Spanish, and Simplified Chinese. Survey participants will be entered into an opportunity drawing for a chance to win a $50 gift card.

Council District 2 Staff Visit ATSAC
LADOT recently welcomed Councilmember Adrin Nazarian and Council District 2 staff on a tour of our ATSAC facility. LADOT’s state-of-the-art Advanced Transportation System and Coordination (ATSAC) center enables LADOT engineers to monitor and control traffic signals throughout the city in real time to ensure safe travel conditions. The councilmember and staff heard from LADOT staff and engineers about how ATSAC operates on a day-to-day basis and its role during large City-wide events like the upcoming World Cup and 2028 Games.
Thanks to Councilmember Nazarian and staff for stopping by!

Choose Your Connection to the LA River Path
The City has identified three potential routes for a bike connection that links Valley Glen, Van Nuys, Studio City, and Sherman Oaks to the LARiverWay bike path. We invite the community to share the feedback on which route is preferred.

Help Develop LADOT's Mobility Action Plan
The City of Los Angeles is developing its first Mobility Action Plan (MAP), which will guide how LA invests in streets, sidewalks, transit, biking, and walking for the next 20 years. Share your feedback about Mobility Action Plan.
