Community Vaccination Center Opens at Cal State Los Angeles

Los Angeles saw the opening of the newest COVID-19 vaccination super-site earlier this week at the campus of Cal State Los Angeles with California Governor Gavin Newsom, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, and other federal and state officials in attendance. Opened on Tuesday, Feb. 16, the new community vaccination center will operate seven days a week, and will administer vaccinations each day between 9 a.m. - 7 p.m. In addition to services administered on location at Cal State Los Angeles, the site will deploy mobile vaccinations to serve those in the surrounding communities.

To provide assistance at the new community vaccination center, LADOT Special Traffic Operations conducted a preliminary assessment of the location and has deployed traffic officers to facilitate vehicular ingress and egress during the site’s operation. Currently, vaccinations will be limited to those with appointments, which may be scheduled for qualifying applicants by visiting myturn.ca.gov or by phone at (833) 422-4255.

Spotlight: The San Vicente Boulevard Safety and Mobility Project

The City of Los Angeles is getting to work on a safer, more connected San Vicente Boulevard between Olympic Boulevard and La Brea Avenue. As a popular city thoroughfare, San Vicente Boulevard connects multiple neighborhoods, commercial corridors, and local destinations. The City of Los Angeles will be repaving the street boulevard in the coming months, providing an opportunity to make safety upgrades and expand the bicycle network on this important city street.

To help inform members of the public about proposed changes to San Vicente Boulevard, LADOT will host a virtual workshop on the project on Monday, March 8 between 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., and another on Thursday, March 11 from 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

African American Heritage Month: Our Commitment to Equity

February marks the celebration of African American Heritage Month in Los Angeles. To commemorate African American Heritage Month, each week LADOT focuses on stories that highlight the presence and culture of African Americans in Los Angeles and the department’s work toward creating more fair and just communities.

This past year, LADOT codified its commitment to equity by making it a key priority in LADOT’s 2021-2023 Strategic Plan. Shortly after Mayor Garcetti released Executive Directive 27 for Racial Equity, LADOT launched its inaugural Racial Equity Core Team to support the department’s work and hold management accountable for achieving goals and outcomes. The group of cross-functional employees was selected through a blind application process from all levels of seniority and business lines to provide a variety of perspectives and reflect the diversity of the department. 

LADOT defines racial equity as the just and fair inclusion into our society in which all people, regardless of their race or ethnicity, can participate, prosper, and reach their full potential. For years, LADOT has promoted just and inclusive programs and service delivery. With these new initiatives, we ensure that the promotion of racial equity is no longer a siloed effort but a fundamental element of all we do.
