Anaheim Project Update

We’ve been steadily working to make Anaheim Street a much safer place for you to commute and now more safety improvements are on their way. The Anaheim Street Safety Project focuses on improving traffic safety and connectivity between Figueroa St and Henry Ford Ave. This section has been named a Priority Corridor due to the high number of fatal and severe injury crashes affecting people walking or biking. Together with StreetsLA and Council District 15, we are redesigning our streets to prioritize human life.

Some of the coming safety revisions include 

• Removing one travel lane in each direction between Figueroa St and Eubank Ave
• Curb extensions with paint and plastic bollards.
• Removing parking between Eubank Ave and Alameda
• A new protected bike lane
• Upgrades to sidewalks, traffic signals, and pedestrian crossings
• Bicycle intersection improvements, pedestrian-scale lighting, and street trees

We are currently beginning to engage the community to get the word out about the upcoming improvements including a community bike ride Saturday, September 17th in Wilmington. This ride is a slow-paced, family-friendly ride that will give residents the opportunity to envision safe and connected streets in the Wilmington community.

CicLAvia Meet the Hollywoods

Thousands of Angelenos came out to enjoy the open streets from East Hollywood to Hollywood and West Hollywood. People of all ages and abilities were able to walk, ride and roll on over 6 miles of safe car-free streets. Participants were able to freely enjoy the streets as they chose and explore the city, make connections and even speak to community-based organizations that support various needs of LA neighborhoods. LADOT was there to here community input as well on various projects including our Neighborhood Greenways and Venice Blvd Mobility Improvements.

 

Venice Safety Project Zoom Workshop

Join LADOT and LA Metro for a Community Workshop about proposed safety and mobility improvements for Venice Blvd. This is an opportunity for residents to learn about the proposed safety and mobility improvements for Venice Blvd. Attendees can ask specific questions about the new designs and give feedback. We need your help to make sure the project meets the needs of everyone who uses the street. 

This project proposes to improve comfort and safety for all who travel on Venice Blvd and focuses on Lincoln Blvd to National Blvd. By protecting the existing bike lane, dedicating a lane for faster and more reliable bus service, and adding safety features throughout the corridor we can reach our goals of 

• Improving traffic safety and reducing fatalities and severe injuries caused by car crashes
• Enhancing connectivity to jobs, social services, transit, and community resources
• Supporting sustainable modes of transportation (biking, walking, rolling, transit)
• Prioritizing buses to improve travel times and reliability
• Increasing access to Metro E Line (Expo)
• Improving access to Venice Beach from inland neighborhoods

Spotlight: Crossing Guards

Class is in session for students at LAUSD and we want to give a big shout to our crossing guards who wake up early to make sure our young Angelenos make it safely to school. Crossing guards are deployed to school crossings across the City of Los Angeles and provide experience and judgment to help children negotiate a school crossing, while also increasing the visibility of their presence to drivers.

We appreciate everything our crossing guards do to keep our kids safe!

Reseda Boulevard Complete Streets Project

As part of the Complete Streets Program, the City is reconstructing Reseda Blvd to improve safety and accessibility for all. Give your feedback on the upcoming improvement and receive updates and more information on the project here.

Watts Central Avenue Great Streets And Safety Project

StreetsLA and the Los Angeles Department of Transportation are making improvements to Central Avenue that will improve safety and accessibility for all on Central Ave. Take the survey to add your feedback about needed safety improvements

Venice Boulevard Mobility Improvements

The City of Los Angeles and Metro are bringing mobility upgrades to Venice Blvd from Lincoln Blvd to National Blvd. This project proposes adding active transportation and bus improvements to increase comfort and safety for all who travel on Venice Blvd. Let us know how you use Venice Blvd and how to best improve it using this survey

LADOT recently installed a Rainbow Halo at the corner of 51st & Normandie for Jammie Wilson whose life was taken by a hit-and-run driver three years ago. These memorials serve as a reminder of the responsibility we all have when we get behind the wheel of a car.
