LADOT Crews Bring New Upgrades To Venice Blvd

LADOT Crews Bring New Upgrades To Venice Blvd

Crews have been hard at work on Venice Blvd with new safety treatments and upgrades along the street. Last week crews installed freshly painted protected bike lanes and a new left turn signal at the intersection of Venice and Hughes. Venice Blvd connects to multiple neighborhoods throughout the city of Los Angles, so we are working with Metro to bring mobility upgrades to make Venice a better street for people walking biking, and using transit. Nearly 47,000 people live within a 5-minute walk of the project area and over half of these residents are people of color.

Unfortunately, traffic collisions are also high in the area. With this project, our goal is to improve traffic safety by adding active transportation and bus improvements to increase comfort and safety for all who travel on Venice Blvd. Currently, our LADOT crews have been out in the streets working on completing various mobility improvements.

Here’s a look at the work that has been completed for the project, the ongoing work, and what is to come.

  • Completed to date:
    • Striping removals in preparation for the new street design.
    • Pavement repairs to prep the street for the new street design
  • Currently underway:
    • Lane markings and crosswalk striping
    • Installation of bollards (plastic posts)
  • Upcoming:
    • Bike lane and bus priority lane signage and pavement markings
    • Final adjustments to parking spaces, meters, or loading zones

Current construction will continue for the remainder of Spring 2023. While the winter weather has impacted the schedule, we anticipate full completion of Phase I of this project by June 2023.

New Pedestrian Beacon at Ventura & Rhodes

New Pedestrian Beacon at Ventura & Rhodes

Residents in the San Fernando Valley can now experience safer crossing conditions along Ventura Blvd with the new Pedestrian Beacon at Ventura & Rhodes. Pedestrian-activated flashing beacons can be installed at lower costs and at locations where traditional traffic signals are not appropriate for use. They are a proven safety device that alerts drivers to pedestrians in the roadway resulting in calmer, safer streets for all.

LADOT Now Hiring Crossing Guards

LADOT Now Hiring Crossing Guards

LADOT is now accepting applications for new Crossing Guards. Crossing guards keep students safe traveling to and from school and help educate and instill safe, alert walking behaviors in young Angelenos. Our crossing guards are placed at schools throughout the city and help provide experience and judgment to help children navigate a school crossing, while also increasing the visibility of their presence to drivers.

If you are interested in applying for a crossing guard position you can visit the website for the application and instructions on how to apply.
