LADOT Celebrates Earth Month
April is Earth Month, an opportunity to reflect on the choices we make and the impact they have on our City and the planet. At LADOT, that work is happening every day. From the buses on our streets to the bike lanes in our neighborhoods, we’re focused on making it easier for Angelenos to move in cleaner, greener, more connected ways.
One of LADOT’s biggest commitments is transitioning our entire transit fleet to zero emission vehicles by 2028. We’ve already rolled out more than 160 zero emission DASH buses–more than half of our fleet–helping improve air quality across the communities we serve. And we’re continuing to build on that progress by investing in a new solar-powered charging facility in Harbor City that will expand our capacity and move us even closer to a fully electric future.
Just as important as building the system is listening to the people who use it. Our recent Rider Study is helping us better understand how Angelenos use our Transit services and where we can improve. That feedback is shaping the future of our services, because a more sustainable City is one that works for everyone.
If you’re an infrequent public transportation rider, I hope Earth Month inspires you to give green transportation a try! Thanks to LADOT’s recent partnership with the Transit app, it’s easier than ever to plan your trip. Plus, all LADOT and Metro services (bus, rail, bike, and Metro Micro) will be free on Earth Day, April 22. See you on board!

School Speed Hump Installation Continues Over Spring Break
Last month, LADOT crews took advantage of spring break to install speed humps around some area schools, including El Sereno Middle School on Eastern Avenue. Crews installed two speed tables on Eastern Avenue, relying on an extensive traffic control setup because the street could not be fully closed. Students returned from spring break to slower vehicle speeds and a safer street.
LADOT’s school speed hump program kicked off last summer, installing 148 speed humps or speed tables around 59 schools to date. The department is on track to install speed humps around an additional 50 schools by the end of this summer.

LADOT Staff Visit Gold Coast Transit for Transit Day
Last week, LADOT conducted our annual Transit Day,
where LADOT staff visit other transit locations to learn about their operations, maintenance, and more. This year, staff visited the Gold Coast Transit facility in Oxnard. This newly built facility is 15 acres and includes many amenities, like a walking path, that focus on employee and bus driver wellness. The tour also incorporated back up generators, fueling stations, wash stations for buses, and maintenance and storage areas.
LADOT Transit will use the findings from this visit to help inform a new transit facility in South LA. Thanks to Gold Coast Transit for hosting!

Families Explore a DASH Bus at Touch-a-Truck
Event
Last month, LADOT Transit participated in the “Touch-a-Truck” event hosted at Discovery Cube Los Angeles. This family-friendly event provided children the opportunity to see real service vehicles up close, including fire trucks, utility vehicles, construction equipment, and more. LADOT brought an electric DASH bus for visitors to explore, helping children learn more about what it takes to provide transportation services to the community. Thanks to Discovery Cube Los Angeles for hosting a fun, memorable, and educational event!
