Student safety is at the top of mind for LADOT as students return to school this week. We worked throughout the summer to develop and install various improvements in school neighborhoods that will make commuting to class much safer and enjoyable. Crossing guards are the first line of safety in protecting students. LADOT has worked diligently to increase the hiring rate of crossing guards, adding 77 crossing guards to the existing crossing guard positions during Fiscal Year for a total of 452 crossing guards on...

At LADOT our goal is to develop streets and transportation options that are safe, enjoyable, and accessible for all who move through Los Angeles. What better way to do that than to hear directly from you? To better serve and understand your needs, we reach out to residents and stakeholders within communities where there are upcoming projects to find out how we can improve the streets where you travel every day.

Over the past month, we have been working with Metro to bring new bus priority lanes to La Brea Ave. The La Brea Ave Bus Priority Lanes Project is part of the Next Gen Bus Plan, a reimagined bus system that focuses on providing fast, frequent, reliable, and accessible service to meet the needs of today’s riders. The lanes being installed along La Brea Ave, between Sunset and Olympic boulevards will be in operation on weekdays during peak traffic periods from 7-9 am and 4-7 p.m. LADOT has been working in collaboration with Metro and...

Over the weekend we joined community members, businesses, elected offices, and agency partners to the celebrate the completion of Venice Blvd Safety and Mobility Project. The transformative street redesign installed several miles of parking protected bike lanes as well as the first, 24-hour bus only lanes in the the city outside of Downtown LA. The days programming include guided biking tours of the new Venice bike lanes alongside music, games, and activities.

On Saturday LADOT joined our partners to bring play streets to a neighborhood in South L.A. For a few hours, LADOT closed down the streets on 99th Street and Avalon to transform the block into a place for play, relaxation, and conversation in support of healthy communities. Those in attendance were able to enjoy fun activities like soccer, jump rope, and games along with music, food, while connecting with community-based organizations. Last week we celebrated the reopening of San Fernando Road & Arvilla Ave. LADOT together with our partners at Councilmember Krekorian’s office, the contractor Sully Miller, and Streets LA were all critical to making this bike path and intersection improvements a reality. This intersection was closed for 18 months as part of the San Fernando Phase III Bike Path Project.

With the reopening of this intersection, Angelenos neighbors and businesses now have a much safer rail crossing with modern safety features....

Join LADOT as we celebrate the completion of Venice Blvd. On Sunday July 23rd from 2 pm to 6 pm, we’ll be enjoying the recent transportation safety improvements along Venice Blvd. There will be a series of guided group bike rides and walks between National and Sepulveda as well as routes through the surrounding neighborhoods highlighting the recent improvements. The Los Angeles Department of Transportation (LADOT), in collaboration with Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro), celebrated the completion of over 4 miles of safety and mobility improvements along Venice Blvd between Inglewood Blvd and National Blvd. The project includes new crosswalks, signal upgrades, parking-protected bike lanes, and a 24-hour dedicated bus lane.

On Sunday CicLAvia opened up 6.2 miles of car-free streets in South L.A. on Vermont Ave. Thousands came out to walk, ride, roll, or enjoy the car-free route.
