Celebrating Seleta Reynolds' 8 Years of Service as LADOT General Manager

Last week, LADOT and the Los Angeles City Council bid farewell to its General Manager of eight years, Seleta Reynolds. During her tenure, Seleta served with a deep sense of purpose and vision. Her leadership style centered on making LADOT a great place to work and establishing the department values of Integrity, Creativity, Fulfillment, and Accountability.

Under her leadership, the department and Los Angeles made saving lives a transportation policy priority by completing baseline safety treatments to 60 priority corridors, and more than 6000 treatments on Vision Zero High Injury networks, leading the department in adding more than 300 lane miles of bike lanes. Seleta also focused improving the quality of life in neighborhoods by transforming how we use the street with programs like Play Streets, Slow Streets, People Streets and the on-street dining program L.A. Al Fresco, which helped local residents reclaim their streets as places to build community and support economic vitality during the height of the pandemic. Seleta also ensured that historically marginalized voices were prioritized by adopting Equity as a part of LADOT’s Strategic Plan and the publication of LA’s first gender equity transportation stud.

As she moves on as the Chief Innovation Officer for the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority we here at LADOT congratulate her, wish her great success, and thank her for her exceptional contributions to LADOT and to the residents of the City of Los Angeles.

7th Street Upgrades Continue To Move Forward

We are making great progress on safety improvements to 7th Street. This project is located in downtown Los Angeles along 7th between Figueroa Street and San Pedro Street.

We broke ground on this project in April 2022 and have since completed various treatments. The purpose of this project is to implement elements to 7th Street to improve pedestrian and bicyclist experiences and improve connectivity between modes of transportation. We know there is a need for multi-modal friendly streets in downtown LA. Together with the help of the Bureau Of  Engineering, we were able to design and implement safety treatments.

Currently, 7th Street Streetscape construction is mostly completed on the first block between San Pedro Street and San Julian Street. Features like road resurfacing, bike lanes, bus boarding islands, and curb ramps are taking shape and more work is being done right now at the 2nd and 3rd blocks between San Julian Street and Maple Avenue. Construction is also finishing up between San Julian Street and Wall Street and will be moving from Maple to Wall at the end of the month. The 7th street project is still a work in progress and there are even more changes to come with beautification upgrades such as trees, lighting, and much more.

 

Traffic Circle Improvements Installed In Belle Porte

This month we worked with Council District 15 to bring improvements to a traffic circle and fresh striping along Belle Porte. These safety updates are installed from Lomita to 255th and designed to calm traffic in the neighborhood. CD 15 requested Neighborhood Traffic Circles to be installed at 5 intersections along with all-way stop control in order to promote traffic calming and prevent reckless driver behavior. With the help of Streets LA to resurface the roads, the design was implemented using striping, signs, and plastic bollards.

 

Community Bike Ride

We are currently beginning to engage the community to get the word out about the upcoming improvements on Anaheim Street. We’re starting with a community bike ride Saturday, September 17th in Wilmington. This ride is a slow-paced, family-friendly ride that will give residents the opportunity to envision safe and connected streets in the Wilmington community.
