LADOT and Metro Celebrate the Completion of the Venice Blvd Safety and Mobility Project

This week we joined Councilmember Katy Yaroslavsky, Metro, residents of Palms and Mar Vista, and project partners to celebrate the completion of the Venice Blvd Safety and Mobility Project. The project features 4 miles of 24-hour bus priority lanes and 2.5 miles of protected bike lanes along with other safety improvements to support all modes of travel. Since the summer of 2022, LADOT and Metro have worked with community members, businesses, and people who walk, drive, and take transit along Venice Blvd to design a corridor where users are safe and supported.

Almost 20,000 riders board the Metro Line 33 on Venice Blvd on an average weekday. This project will improve the reliability and quality of service for these passengers. The corridor is also part of the City of Los Angeles’ High Injury Network: the six percent of streets that account for over 70 percent of severe and fatal injury collisions. Since 2012, there were over 1200 collisions along the stretch of Venice West of the 405. By targeting these safety and mobility investments, including new crosswalks and signal upgrades, we can reduce fatal and life-altering injuries while improving the experience for all road users.

A population of 47,000 live within a 5-minute walk of the project area and over half of these residents are people of color. The area has 36 schools and has connections to the Culver City Metro E Line (Expo) Station. LADOT and Metro will continue to work with our partners and community to deliver projects that make it easier for people to get on and off buses and enhance accessibility for all users of Venice Blvd. LADOT looks forward to this and other collaborations as we improve mobility options and experience for Angelenos across our region.

New Slow Street Debut in Highland Park

New Slow Street Debut in Highland Park Academy

We are in the final stretch of completing Phase II of slow streets treatments. New slow streets have debuted in Highland Park. Over the past year, LADOT has been making permanent upgrades to various slow street networks throughout the city. Slow Street in Highland ParkOur crews were out in the Highland Park neighborhood installing updated and new safety features that will encourage drivers to slow down in residential areas and create a safer environment for residents to enjoy walking, biking, or rolling through their neighborhood.  Some of the new permanent slow streets features found in Highland Park include centerline gateway treatments, signage & street markings, and traffic circles. There are just two more slow street networks left to be installed. Once completed Phase II will have installed a total of 27 networks.

LADOT Now Hiring Crossing Guards

LADOT Now Hiring Crossing Guards

LADOT is now accepting applications for new Crossing Guards. Crossing guards keep students safe traveling to and from school and help educate and instill safe, alert walking behaviors in young Angelenos. Our crossing guards are placed at schools throughout the city and help provide experience and judgment to help children navigate a school crossing, while also increasing the visibility of their presence to drivers.

If you are interested in applying for a crossing guard position you can visit the website for the application and instructions on how to apply.
