Annual Report Fiscal Year 202324

Annual Report Fiscal Year 2023-24

At LADOT, our goal is to support Los Angeles communities by keeping our city moving safely, efficiently, and sustainably. Over the past year, we’ve made significant progress in improving transportation across the city. I’m excited to share our Fiscal Year 2023-24 Annual Report, highlighting the work we’ve done and the steps we’re taking to build a more connected Los Angeles.

Inside, you’ll find highlights of projects that are already making a difference—safer streets, improved bus service, and infrastructure upgrades designed to meet the needs of a growing and dynamic Los Angeles. Every project and initiative in this report reflects our commitment to creating a transportation system that works for everyone, whether you walk, bike, ride, or drive.

None of this would be possible without the hard-working LADOT employees who are proud to serve this city each day. I invite you to explore the report to see how far we’ve come. There is still work to be done, but every step forward brings us closer to a safer, more accessible, and more connected city.

Launch Bus Lane Enforcement Ticketing Program

Metro and LADOT Launch Bus Lane Enforcement Ticketing Program on Feb. 17

Keeping bus lanes and bus stops clear for transit riders is crucial to ensuring an efficient and equitable transportation system. As part of this effort, Metro and LADOT will begin using cameras on buses to issue citations to motorists who park or stop in designated bus lanes, effective February 17.

The bus lane enforcement program was announced in November. During the initial period, warnings were issued to drivers who were blocking or parked in a bus lane. Now, drivers will face a penalty starting at $293. A second offense will result in a penalty of $406.

The automated enforcement system will capture violations through two cameras installed behind the windshield of select buses. An LADOT Traffic Officer will review the recordings to verify the accuracy of the image before issuing a ticket.

Ticketing cameras are currently installed on Metro Line 720 servicing Wilshire Blvd and Metro Line 212 servicing La Brea Ave. Over the coming months, cameras will also be installed on Metro Lines 910 and 950 servicing the J Line and Metro Line 70 servicing Olive St/Grand Ave. Parking or stopping in during operational hours of any designated bus lane is subject to citation.

The bus lane enforcement program will help keep bus lanes clear for transit, ensuring buses run efficiently and making rides faster and more reliable.

Black History Month

DeLane Magee, Transportation Engineering Associate I

DeLane MageeDeLane works with the Citywide Temporary Traffic Control (CTTC), which deals with construction projects that take place on the City of LA public right-of-way for 72 hours or fewer. He is an LA native with both sides of his family residing in the South Bay.

The variety of applications for transportation engineering inspired DeLane to choose the transportation field for his profession. While working at LADOT, he’s been able to see the impact the department has on the community and how future programs and projects can be refined. Black Angelenos are frequent users of Los Angeles Active Transportation facilities, and DeLane appreciates the efforts being made to make commuting safer for the Black community.

When asked about what he loves about Los Angeles, DeLane answered, “I love the diversity that LA offers. LA is home to a melting pot of people coming from different cultures, backgrounds, and interests.” That diversity will be amplified as LA prepares to host the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Given the diverse backgrounds of people of African descent, DeLane believes there should be a DineLA Restaurant Week for the duration of The Games. This will promote tourism among various LA communities and be an opportunity to highlight and support more Black-owned restaurants in LA.
