It's been nearly two years since construction began on the $19.5 million Reseda Blvd Complete Streets Project in October 2020. This multi-agency project will transform Reseda Blvd between Parthenia St and Victory Blvd with pavement rehabilitation and roadway safety improvements, including:
- Sidewalk, driveway, and curb ramp repairs
- Street resurfacing
- Traffic signal upgrades
- Bus boarding islands
- Street trees
- New continuous protected bicycle lane
Construction is estimated to continue through the rest of this year, into early 2023, according to the schedule below (subject to change due to unforeseen conditions.)
Progress Report
Over the past 21 months, City of LA crews have been working on reconstructing portions of the sidewalk and driveways in greatest need of repair, rebuilding corner curb ramps to meet current accessibility standards, rebuilding broken curbs and gutters, and constructing accessible loading zones so people in wheelchairs or other mobility devices who are dropped off on Reseda Blvd are able to safely cross the protected bike lane. The result will be safer, smoother surfaces for people walking, rolling, and driving on Reseda Blvd. To date, the City has completed 100,000 sf of sidewalk repair, 12,000 feet of gutter repair, and constructed 46 curb ramps and 11 accessible loading zones for the project.
City of LA crews have also been constructing new bus boarding islands along Reseda Blvd. These 11 concrete islands will improve bus efficiency by no longer requiring bus drivers to pull over to the curb and then wait to re-enter traffic. They will also provide a safety improvement for people on bikes, as the bus islands will separate buses from the bicycle lane. In most cases, the new bus islands also include a relocation of the bus stop to the far side of the intersection, which further improves safety and efficiency for transit riders. To date, four of the 11 bus boarding islands have been completed at Strathern St, Chase St, Ingomar St, and Valerio St. Construction will soon be complete at a fifth island at Vanowen St.

What's Next?
Construction for the remaining bus boarding islands will continue southward along the west side of the street then proceed northward along the east side of the street over the next few months. Construction activities will take approximately 4 weeks at each bus island location. Drivers on Reseda should expect temporary lane closures around each project site, and are asked to drive carefully and look out for detour signs. More information on this phase of the construction can be found on this fact sheet.
Finally, this Summer crews will be working to upgrade traffic signals on Reseda Blvd. These upgrades will include adding new left turn arrows (protected left turns) at 8 locations for drivers making left turns from Reseda Blvd. Signal work will last for approximately 10 months. You can expect intermittent sidewalk closures and temporary parking restrictions at those work sites.
Thank you for your patience as we continue to improve Reseda Blvd!
