LADOT recently joined Council District 2, the Bureau of Engineering, and Metro to break ground on the Chandler Bike Connection! The Chandler Bike Connection will upgrade the existing bicycle lanes on Chandler Boulevard to protected lanes with bollards and curb stops for a riding experience that is safer and more comfortable for riders of all ages and abilities.

We firmly believe that Angelenos are the experts on the needs of their communities, and it is essential that the street and safety improvements we implement reflect those needs. LADOT engages with the community through a combination of methods:   

Speeding is one of the leading causes of serious injuries and deaths on our streets. In the City of Los Angeles, around one in five fatal crashes were directly attributed to speeding in 2024. LADOT’s Vision Zero Safety Study also found that unsafe speed was the primary collision factor in 40% of vehicle-only collisions that resulted in a fatality. Reducing speeding on our City streets makes our neighborhoods safer and more pleasant, encourages walking and biking, and–most importantly–saves lives.

This week marks the start of African American Heritage Month, and today–February 4–transit agencies across the country mark Transit Equity Day, celebrated on the birthday of Rosa Parks. The Los Angeles River flows 51 miles across LA county, from Canoga Park all the way to Long Beach, connecting communities and providing a vital outdoor space for many Angelenos. LADOT and Metro are undertaking several projects to both expand the current bike route along the river and enhance connectivity to the existing path, providing more residents with a safe and separate place for both transportation and recreation.

I’m proud to share the Fiscal Year 2024-2025 LADOT Annual Report. Over the previous year, the department has made significant progress in advancing its core mission to design, build, and operate a safe, resilient, and accessible transportation system. The last year saw the addition of new and expanded transit services, completion of major projects, and adoption of new technology to better manage streets and deliver services.
