New 'No Idling' Signs to Protect LA Communities

Today, LADOT joined a coalition of partners to unveil 'no idling' signs in Wilmington to prevent buses and large vehicles from running engines while waiting in a stationary position. Vehicle idling contributes to pollution and ill-health effects that result from poor air quality and is illegal within the State of California. However, historically, this issue has been difficult to enforce and prevent. It is a particular nuisance for communities in the Harbor area due to the large volume of trucks and commercial vehicles that access the Port of Los Angeles

To address this issue and protect the quality of life of neighborhoods like Wilmington, LADOT's Southern District Engineers, worked in partnership with Councilmember Joe Buscaino, LA Sanitation, LAPD, the California Air Resources Board, and the South Coast Air Quality Management District to establish a system that will make it easy to report and issue penalties to violators of the no-idling rules, which will help to deter that behavior.

From now on, when a vehicle is idling, people may help their community by calling 1-800-CUT-SMOG. This information has also been added onto the signs to help people report idling vehicles. It is also possible now to request No Idling signs to deter such behavior by sending a request to the CARB by emailing coes@arb.ca.gov. Requests for signage near hospitals, houses, schools, senior centers, and other sensitive locations will receive priority signage.

Metro Bike Share Returns to North Hollywood

Metro announces the return of Metro Bike Share in North Hollywood. Earlier this year, we worked with Metro Bike Share to improve the services in North Hollywood, which resulted in a temporary shut down of all stations and bikes in the area.

Now, after completing the installation, Metro launched twelve revamped Bike Share stations that are secure and easily accessible, including electric metro bikes.

• Chandler & Laurel Canyon
• Lankershim & Califa
• Magnolia & Cartwright

• Lankershim & Vineland

Women's History Month LADOT Spotlight

As Women’s History Month comes to a close, LADOT would like to say thank you to all the women in the department, those in organizations that have partnered with us, and women around the world for your dedication, skill, talent, and hard work you bring to what you do. This month we've celebrated the women who move our city forward by citing examples of leadership and outstanding performers for our department as well as highlighting the results of our Changing Lanes study to build a more equitable transit system for women. Upgraded High Visibility Crosswalks Installed Around The City

Here is a selection of new high visibility crosswalks LADOT has recently installed throughout various neighborhoods in the City of Los Angeles. This particular type of safety improvement uses high contrast patterns that allow the intersection to be more visible to drivers, alerting them to the likely presence of people walking. These crosswalks can help prevent traffic crashes by promoting and improving yielding behavior of drivers. Keep an eye out for these crosswalks in your neighborhood, they won't be difficult to spot!

Community Slow-Roll Bike Ride & Celebration

Over the weekend, Angelenos joined our community partners Ride In Living Color for a community slow-roll bike ride and celebration in West Adams. The group celebrated with a guided slow-roll bike ride on our newly-added bike lanes along Adams Blvd, between Fairfax and Crenshaw.

The improvements are a part of LADOT's Adams Blvd Safety Project which aims to improve traffic safety and accessibility, as well as reduce the high number of crashes that have killed or severely injured people in the neighborhood. Our community partners were also in attendance to share information on the project, mobility safety tips, upcoming community mobility efforts & events!

Mid-City Safety Improvements Open House

Safety improvements are on their way to the Beverly Grove, Fairfax, and Hollywood neighborhoods. LADOT is working with community partners to bring improvements that will enhance traffic and pedestrian safety with the installation of traffic circles, crosswalks, curb extensions, and more. These improvements are a part of our Mid City Neighborhood Greenways project, which began with the installation of a new traffic signal at Rosewood Ave and La Brea Ave in May 2019.
