Rainbow Halo Installed In Memory Of Brian Hull

Last week, we joined the family of Brian Hull at the Intersection of W 89 St. & S Broadway for the installation of a Rainbow Halo. Six years ago, Brian was killed by a hit-and-run driver, merely blocks from his home at the age of 28. The permanent Rainbow Halo memorial fixture will honor the memory of Brian Hull and serve as a reminder of the responsibility each of us has when behind the wheel of a car. At the Department of Transportation, we too have a responsibility to bear witness and to build a transportation system that prioritizes safety over speed and protects pedestrians like Brian.

If you are interested in how you can get involved in the Rainbow Halo program, visit our website.

New Full Traffic Signal Activated on Berry Drive and Ventura Blvd

New Full Traffic Signal Activated on Berry Drive and Ventura Blvd

We’ve added some new safety improvements out in Studio City at Berry Drive and Ventura Blvd intersection where we’ve activated a new full traffic signal.

New traffic signals take a bit more work then interventions like adding a left turn or crosswalk because engineers are essentially working from scratch and must work around other existing infrastructure (power poles, utility lines, etc) and must also “connect” that new signal to our central hub via underground wires. Once that connection is made it is included in our integrated signal system and creates a streamlined flow of traffic across the city.

Improvements like this are part of the city's Vision Zero efforts to end traffic violence. We target improvements based upon data to identify where investments can make the greatest impact in preventing crashes and loss of life on our streets.
