Barrington Avenue & Missouri Avenue Crosswalk
LADOT received a service request in February of this year for the installation of a crosswalk to be located across Barrington Avenue at Missouri Avenue. LADOT carefully analyzed the location and decided to install the crosswalk on the north leg of this intersection, due to the existing street geometry where the south leg of Barrington Avenue at Missouri Avenue is 15 feet wider than the north leg.
In order to encourage drivers to slow down while making a right turn onto Missouri Avenue from southbound Barrington Avenue and to increase visibility of incoming southbound traffic, LADOT installed an edge line with K-71s and diagonals onto southbound Barrington Avenue. This shrunk the travel lane from 33 feet to 11 feet at the intersection. In an effort to further increase visibility at this crosswalk, LADOT also added paddle signs on both approaches to the crosswalk within the painted median, surrounded by double yellow centerlines and reflective yellow RPMs, and added reflective white RPMs on both sides of the crosswalk.

CicLAvia–South LA Held this Past Sunday
On Sunday, LADOT joined thousands of Angelenos in celebration of opening up streets in South LA for CicLAvia! Participants enjoyed miles of open streets that connected the South LA neighborhoods of Vermont Square, Harvard Park, Chesterfield Square, Exposition Park, and King Estates. LADOT hosted booths that showcased our Department's projects in South LA and in areas nearby, such as “Western Our Way” and even our "South LA Universal Basic Mobility Pilot".

Community Celebrates The Grand Opening Of The Sixth Street Viaduct
Over the weekend thousands of Angelenos joined Councilmember Kevin De Leon and Mayor Eric Garcetti to celebrate the reopening of the Sixth Street Viaduct. The bridge is the largest bridge project in the history of Los Angeles. A weekend of celebration began on Saturday featuring live music, food trucks, vintage car displays, and much more. The night closed with fireworks and the official lighting of the 20 arches of the bridge. On Sunday, the bridge was open to bikes and pedestrians.
The $588 million bridge broke ground in 2016, is 3,500 feet long, 100 feet wide, and features 10 pairs of arches varying from 30-60 feet in height. The newly reopened bridge replaced the original with a new iconic design and safely accommodates pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles. The bridge contains class IV protected bike lanes and is equipped with ADA-accessible ramps at multiple access points.
If you haven't already, plan a visit to this new Los Angeles landmark!
