Ribbon Cutting For The Reopening Of Sun Valley Intersection

Ribbon Cutting For The Reopening Of Sun Valley Intersection

Last week we celebrated the reopening of San Fernando Road & Arvilla Ave. LADOT together with our partners at Councilmember Krekorian’s office, the contractor Sully Miller, and Streets LA were all critical to making this bike path and intersection improvements a reality. This intersection was closed for 18 months as part of the San Fernando Phase III Bike Path Project.

With the reopening of this intersection, Angelenos neighbors and businesses now have a much safer rail crossing with modern safety features. Improvements made to the intersection during construction and realignment include:

  • Curb and ADA-compliant handicap access ramps on the northwest and northeast corner of San Fernando Rd, southwest and southeast corners of Little San Fernando, and median island.
  • Realignment of intersection with new pavement, signage, and striping.
  •  Pedestrian automatic warning devices with flashers, self-closing emergency swing gates, tactical warning surfaces, and channelization hand-railings.

Once complete, the San Fernando Phase III Bike Path will add 4.75 miles along San Fernando Road that will connect Sylmar in the City of Burbank to the south and travels alongside the Metrolink lines. The project includes a bike and pedestrian bridge over the Tujunga Wash and traffic signal modifications at 12 intersections including this one at San Fernando and Arvilla.

LADOT Releases The 2022 Annual Report

LADOT 2022 Annual Report Highlights: Sustainability

At LADOT, we are dedicated to moving our City toward a more sustainable transportation system. In our 2022 Annual Report, we outline the many ways we are progressing, from transitioning our fleet to zero-emission vehicles to building infrastructure improvements that encourage sustainable transportation. We know that the way we move people and transport goods significantly impacts our lives and our environment.

Here are some of the sustainability efforts we’ve accomplished highlighted in our 2022 Annual Report

  • The South L.A Eco Lab: LADOT partnered with a coalition of community groups led by SLATE-Z  and secured funding to develop a program that would improve environmental conditions and reduce pollution in South L.A.
  • A Long-Range Bike Share Partnership with Metro: Our bike share partnership with Metro continues, and we recently re-established Metro bike share stations in North Hollywood and began looking into further expansions in South L.A.
  • Transit Service Provides Support for Communities: LADOT transit services are a key component of our efforts to support Los Angeles families. In 2022 LADOT increased some services with a new all-electric commuter express vehicle, a new DASH service in North Hollywood, and completed the Alvarado Bus Lane.

New Bike Lane Installed On Glencoe Avenue

New Bike Lane Installed On Glencoe Avenue

Over the weekend our LADOT crews got to work installing a new bike lane on Glencoe Ave. The bike lane runs between Maxella Ave and Alla Rd in Del Rey. The new treatment redesigns the streets at different points. Maxella to Mindanao and Mindanao to the Western edge of Rosendahl Park will replace parking with a protected bike lane each way. The Western edge of Rosendall Park to Alla Rd will introduce sharrows to travel lanes. The goal is to encourage safe speeds on Glencoe Ave by better organizing the roadway, improving connectivity to existing bike lanes, and providing safe transportation options for bicycles, scooters, and skateboards.

LADOT Now Hiring Crossing Guards

LADOT Now Hiring Crossing Guards

LADOT is now accepting applications for new Crossing Guards. Crossing guards keep students safe traveling to and from school and help educate and instill safe, alert walking behaviors in young Angelenos. Our crossing guards are placed at schools throughout the city and help provide experience and judgment to help children navigate a school crossing, while also increasing the visibility of their presence to drivers.

If you are interested in applying for a crossing guard position you can visit the website for the application and instructions on how to apply.
