Presenting the LADOT Annual Report

LADOT is pleased to announce the publication of the LADOT Annual Report for July 2019 - December 2020, which details many of the accomplishments and services that the department provided from July 2019 through December 2020. The structure of this report, which follows from the goals outlined in LADOT’s Strategic Plan, describes a wide assortment of achievements that were accomplished by the department in its pursuit to build livable streets that improve health, address environmental effects, and improve economic and community life for all.

A few of the notable accomplishments presented in this newest LADOT Annual Report include:

The launch of the Slow Streets L.A. program to create safe outdoor spaces for Angelenos during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The creation of the L.A. Al Fresco outdoor dining program to address pandemic-related health concerns by allowing restaurants to expand dining areas into parking lanes, driving lanes, and adjacent private lots.
The provision of fare-free DASH bus service with new safety procedures to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The conclusion of the first year of Los Angeles’ dockless mobility program, which saw more than 10 million trips taken on scooters and bicycles.
The conversion of pedestrian push buttons to non-touch functionality to decrease the number of potential virus contact points for those who walk.
The commencement of operations at LADOT Transit’s new LEED Platinum certified operations and maintenance facility in downtown Los Angeles.
The upgrading of 2,360 parking meters to the latest generation of smart meters to provide better data regarding parking patterns.
The placement of new bus-only lanes in downtown Los Angeles to improve transit service.
The expansion of the city’s bicycle network, which includes more than 60 miles of new and upgraded lanes.

African American Heritage Month: Celebrating Transportation Innovators

At LADOT, we recognize the extensive contributions of African Americans to the progress of the transportation sector both in our own time and throughout history. As part of L.A.’s African American Heritage Month, LADOT is highlighting some of these innovative contributions, ranging from those created by individuals to those that resulted from the collaborations of many. This week, LADOT is spotlighting influential African Americans in transportation who embraced innovation and opportunity despite barriers such as segregation and discrimination.

Spotlight: The Chatsworth Street Safety Project

The City of Los Angeles is making improvements to Chatsworth Street from Sepulveda Boulevard to Chatsworth Drive in Mission Hills. In coordination with scheduled street repaving, LADOT proposes to implement street safety improvements that include fresh paint, new crosswalks, and repurposing one westbound travel lane to create space for a new bike lane in both directions that will connect existing Chatsworth Street bike lanes to the Sepulveda Boulevard corridor.

LADOT completed the initial installation a new modular pedestrian refuge island at the intersection of Hollywood Boulevard and Lyman Avenue to improve safety for those who walk in Los Feliz. Following this initial installation, new striping was then placed to provide visibility.
