LADOT’s top priority is ensuring the safety of our streets. This is especially critical for people when they are walking or rolling on our streets when they are most vulnerable and at the highest risk of serious injury and death in a traffic collision. To prioritize the use of our limited resources, we rely on a data-driven system that is informed and enhanced by the requests we receive directly from residents, and the expertise of our community partners, whom we engage with regularly. In 2021 alone, LADOT worked to install or improve hundreds of critical safety treatments across the city, including over 1400 crosswalks citywide.
If a resident identifies a need for safety treatments on the street in Los Angeles, they should not hesitate to report it to us by either contacting their Council Office or reaching out to LADOT directly.
We share in the community’s sense of urgency to make our streets safer and implement pedestrian safety treatments in our City. We also want to ensure that the City’s limited resources are delivered equitably, to the communities that have the highest safety risks. Unauthorized installations of street treatments are illegal, will be removed, and could result in citations, fines, and fees charged to cover the City’s cost of removal. Unauthorized street treatments are also a liability for the City, and they divert already limited City resources away from urgent safety projects, putting lives at risk.
