This week we celebrated Walktober with students attending New Los Angeles Charter School. LADOT General Manager Connie LLanos  and CD 10 Councilmember Heather Hutt joined representatives from LAPD and the school to meet the students at different points on their route to school. This event highlights the importance of safety for children who walk or bike to school.

Today, LADOT opened the application process for its neighborhood speed hump program for the first time in two and a half years. Due to high demand, the department reached its limit of applications citywide within the first 15 minutes of opening the application. 

The department is pleased to see so many neighborhoods reach out to request this critical street safety treatment that helps make communities safer and more livable. The Los Angeles Department of Transportation is reopening its Neighborhood Speed Hump Program and expanding it thanks to additional funding and resources. Los Angeles residents will be able to apply for speed humps through the LADOT website beginning October 6, 2022 at 9 AM. The Neighborhood Speed Hump Program is back! Beginning October 6 at 9:00 am Angelenos can submit their application for speed humps in their neighborhood. Speed humps are designed to help slow the speed of cars in residential areas so that Angelenos can enjoy safe, calm neighborhood streets.

New safety improvements arrived in South LA this week. Our LADOT crews installed new traffic signals and upgraded crosswalks on 28th and Central where there were previously none. Data shows this intersection to be a High Injury Network street. The High-Injury Network (HIN) the 6% of city streets (over 450 miles) that accounts for almost 70% of deaths and severe injuries for people walking.
