Join LADOT as we celebrate the completion of Venice Blvd. On Sunday July 23rd from 2 pm to 6 pm, we’ll be enjoying the recent transportation safety improvements along Venice Blvd. There will be a series of guided group bike rides and walks between National and Sepulveda as well as routes through the surrounding neighborhoods highlighting the recent improvements. On Sunday CicLAvia opened up 6.2 miles of car-free streets in South L.A. on Vermont Ave. Thousands came out to walk, ride, roll, or enjoy the car-free route. On Saturday, June 10th, LADOT co-hosted a Play Streets event in Pico-Union on the streets adjacent to the Alvarado Terrace Park between S. Bonnie Brae St, W 14 St, and Alvarado Terrace. During this event, LADOT closed streets to traffic to transform the block into a place for play, relaxation, and conversation in support of healthy communities. This Play Streets event is the first six open streets events planned to take place throughout the City of Los Angeles.

This week we joined Councilmember Monica Rodriguez in Pacoima to celebrate the installation of a new HAWK beacon at the intersection of Laurel Canyon Blvd & Mercer St. The pedestrian hybrid beacon or HAWK beacon is a safety improvement that allows people walking to cross higher volume intersections.

This treatment is located at an intersection where there was no prior signalization and sees a high volume of traffic due to businesses, a church, and residential areas in the vicinity. The signal is activated when pushed by a pedestrian....

Last Thursday, Councilmember Traci Park and the Council District 11 staff joined us for a ride along on our LAnow service. LAnow is one of many safe and affordable transportation services that LADOT offers to help Angelenos with their commute. This service is a convenient, low-cost, on-demand rideshare service in which riders to request a ride using the LAnow smartphone app available in the Google Play and App Store.

Last week we joined Councilmember Eunisses Hernandez (CD1), Kounkuey Design Initiative (KDI), and community partners to reveal "La Sombrita" at a DASH bus stop at 3rd and Union in Westlake. The prototype shade structure is now installed at four DASH stops to pilot a potential solution to improve the transit experience for women. The pilot is funded entirely by a private foundation grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation at no cost to the taxpayers.

LADOT is proud to present the first edition of our Bilingual Glossary of Transportation Terms. We know that to better serve our community, accessibility is important. With this first-of-its-kind glossary, our goal is to remove the language barrier that Spanish-speaking communities face when interacting with government agencies. With this new tool, technical terminology will be more accessible to Angelenos allowing them to advocate their needs and ensure we make investments that meet them.
